WOMEN'S LACROSSE NOTCHES SIXTH STRAIGHT VICTORY WITH 15-5 WIN OVER CANISIUS

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College women's lacrosse team pushed its win streak to six with a 15-5 victory over Canisius College at the Thomas J. Niland Athletic Complex. Rebekah Elmer, Kylie Rosette and Whitney Vecchio finished with hat tricks for the Dolphins (9-4). The Golden Griffins (6-6, 1-0 MAAC) were led by Ashley Gray and Brett Poissant, who scored two goals apiece.

Eight different Dolphins found the back of the net in the victory. Le Moyne raced out to a 2-0 lead in the game's first two minutes behind goals from Elmer and Kaitlin Walker. A goal from Poissant cut the Dolphins' lead in half but Le Moyne rattled off four straight tallies to take a 6-1 lead midway through the first half. The Dolphins led by as many as eight in the game's first 30 minutes thanks to three first-half goals from Rosette; two each from Elmer, Vecchio and Nerissa Barzee; and quick scores from Walker and Michelle Lissner. Canisius trimmed Le Moyne's halftime lead to 11-5 with three goals late in the first half from Gray and Poissant.

Le Moyne's defense shined in the second half by holding the Golden Griffin's offense scoreless. For the sixth straight game, a defense anchored by Betsy Bubnack, Leah Mazella, Elizabeth Sierotnik and Walker failed to allow more than nine goals. Elmer and Vecchio netted second-half goals for Le Moyne and Maura Kenville and Mia Valletta added scores in the game's final 10 minutes.

Le Moyne's Samantha Falcone stopped a flurry of Canisius shots from up-close and finished with eight saves for the game. Allison Daley collected 15 saves between the pipes for the Golden Griffins.

The Dolphins look to push their home winning streak to 14, one that dates back to the 2006 campaign, when they host Manhattan College at 4 p.m. Friday.
