BROOKVILLE, NY - The Le Moyne College softball team wrapped up their season on Sunday as they fell to New Haven 2-0 in the NCAA Northeast Regional. The Dolphins finish the season at 46-11, ranking them second all-time for wins in a season.
After three scoreless innings, New Haven struck first for one run in the fourth on an RBI double by Nicole Downs. The Chargers added another run in the sixth inning as Meg Brown singled through the left side to score Downs. The Dolphin offense sputtered despite out hitting the Chargers 8-4. Le Moyne's last gasp came in the bottom of the seventh inning as the Dolphins put the tying runs on base, but New Haven's Breanne Gleason closed the door to secure the shutout. Gleasson struck out ten on the day in earning her 17th win of the season..
Danielle VanGorder and Caitlin O'Neill paced the Le Moyne offense with two hits each. Senior Sarah Reed took the loss for Le Moyne going 5.2 innings, allowing four hits and two runs to drop to 15-3 for the season.
New Haven advances to face C.W. Post for the right to represent the Northeast region in the College World Series next week.
Announced earlier in the day, seniors Sarah Reed and Emma Murphy earned 2008 Louisville Slugger / NFCA Division II All-Region honors. Reed was named to the first team as a pitcher/utility player while Murphy collected second-team accolades at first base.
