EDINBURG, Tex. - Robert Perez homered and Corey O'Neill scored four runs as the Le Moyne College baseball team knocked off Houston Baptist, 13-4, in day two of the National Independent Tournament at Edinburg Stadium. The Dolphins (32-20) dug themselves out of a hole after falling behind 3-0, scoring the final nine runs of the contest.
After a shaky first inning in which he allowed three runs, pitcher Luke Nellis settled in to a groove. In his next seven innings of work, he struck out five batters and surrendered only one earned run on five hits. Perez gave Le Moyne its first lead with a two-run shot in the fourth and O'Neill put the Dolphins on top with a two-run double in the fifth. From there, Chris Haynes, Matt Nandin, Phil St. Amant and Stephen Crawford pushed across runs with RBI singles.
O'Neill, Haynes and Chris Edmonson each finished with three hits for Le Moyne. O'Neill, Perez and Sean Paino collected a pair of RBIs in the victory.
The Dolphins look to stay perfect at the National Independent Tournament when they take on New Jersey Tech at 11 a.m. (Central Time) Saturday.
