BOTSFORD AND EDMONDSON LEAD AS BASEBALL POWERS PAST LONGWOOD, 11-4

SYRACUSE, NY – The Le Moyne Dolphins completed a four-game sweep of Longwood on Sunday with an 11-4 victory at Dick Rockwell Field. The Dolphins were led by freshman Brett Botsford's (Baldwinsville, NY / C.W. Baker) four hits and four RBI along with a grand slam by junior Chris Edmondson (Johnson City, NY / Johnson City). Le Moyne improves to 15-17 on the season while Longwood drops to 21-16.

As they did in both games on Saturday, Longwood got on the board in its first at-bat with a one-out home run to center field by Brant Jones off freshman starter Derek Zielinski (Schenectady, NY / Colonie). Zielinski would settle down to allow only one run and strike out four over 3.1 innings of work.

Down 1-0 in the third inning, Le Moyne struck for two runs as Don Schaff (Middle Island, NY / Longwood) reached on a walk and later scored on a passed ball. Botsford connected on a single through the left side to plate fellow freshman Matt Ciraco (White Plains, NY / Perkiomen School) for the 'Phins second run.

The Dolphins blew the game open in the fourth inning as Chris Haynes (Manlius, NY / Fayetteville-Manlius) and Matt Marra (Brewerton, NY / Central Square) led off with a single and double, respectively. A walk to junior Sean Paino (Wappinger Falls, NY / Roy C. Ketcham) before Botsford doubled home two runs with a drive down the right field line. Following a walk to Matt Nandin (North Syracuse, NY / CNS), Edmondson connected for his seventh home run of the season with a grand slam to center field.

Marra greeted Longwood reliever Matt Gwaltney in the fifth with a lead-off home run over the left field wall for his fifth round-tripper of the season, pushing the Dolphin lead to 10-1.

The Lancers scratched for three runs in the top of the seventh with run-scoring hits from Chris Briere and Brant Jones. An opposite field home run by Botsford in the eighth inning wrapped up the day's scoring as the Dolphins cruised to an 11-4 victory.

Freshman reliever Mark Kuzma (Waverly, NY / Waverly) picked up his first career victory after pitching 2.2 scoreless innings.

Le Moyne returns to action on Tuesday, April 21st when then they travel to the Capital Region to take on Albany at 3:00 p.m.
