LAFAYETTE HANDS BASEBALL 3-2 DEFEAT IN SERIES FINALE

SYRACUSE, NY – Lafayette's Rob Froio connected for two hits, drove in a run and scored once to lead the Leopards to a 3-2 victory in the series finale Sunday afternoon at Dick Rockwell Field. Despite taking the first two games of the series on Saturday, Le Moyne falls to 20-21 on the season. Lafayette improves to 22-25 on the year.

Both teams recorded runs in the first inning. Froio opened the game wit a single to left field. After moving over on a wild pitch, he scored on an RBI single by A.J. Pisarri. Le Moyne responded in their first at-bat. Freshman Brett Botsford (Baldwinsville, NY / Baldwinsville) reached on an infield single and stole second to move into scoring position. Following a walk to Chris Haynes (Manlius, NY / Fayetteville-Manlius), junior Chris Edmondson (Johnson City, NY / Johnson City) tied the game at 1-1 with an RBI single.

Following two scoreless innings, Lafayette got on the board in the fourth inning on a solo home run to right field by Jeff Butler. The Leopards got one more run in the seventh on an RBI single by Froio to push the lead to 3-1.

Le Moyne rallied in their last at-bat. With two outs, Rich Brown (Vestal, NY / Vestal) reached on an infield single. Brown came around to score on a double down the right field line by Don Schaff (Middle Island, NY / Longwood) to cut the lead in half at 3-2. Lafayette's Ian Dickson entered the game with two outs and retired Chris Murphy (Laurel Hollow, NY / St. Dominic's) on a screaming line drive to second to earn the save.

Jeremy Atkins picked up his third win of the season going six innings, allowing one run on three hits and striking our four. Le Moyne's Brandon Otto (Cicero, NY / CNS) picked up the defeat despite a solid effort on the hill. Otto allowed two earned runs over six innings of work.
