Farmville, Va. – Freshman catcher Brian Stinson (Binghamton, N.Y./Chenango Valley) led a 14-hit attack by Le Moyne as the Dolphins claimed the rubber match in a three-game series with Longwood on Sunday by the score of 9-4. Stinson connected on four hits, drove in two and scored two runs as the Dolphins evened their record at 12-12 on the season. After dropping two of three games to Le Moyne, the Lancers fall to 10-11.
Freshman Zack Wiley (Toluca Woods, Calif./Crespi) improved on his team-leading batting average with a 3-for-5 effort with two runs scored. Sophomore shortstop Matt Marra (Brewerton, N.Y./Central Square) drove in three runs on the day with a pair of hits and Matthew Ciraco (White Plains, N.Y./Perkiomen School) connected for the first home run of his career in the victory.
On the mound, southpaw Mark Kuzma (Waverly, N.Y./Waverly) pitched six and two-thirds innings allowing two runs on seven hits to earn his second win of the season.
The Dolphins struck first with a run in the top of the first inning as Wiley led off with a single to left field, advanced to second on a passed ball and moved to third on a single to right by Ciraco. Marra plated the game's first run on a sacrifice fly to center field.
The Lancers countered with a run of their own in the bottom half of the first as Brant Jones doubled to left-center and later scored on a single up the middle by Phil Cerreto.
Both clubs traded runs in the fifth inning as the Dolphins plated a run on a bases-loaded infield single by Marra to score Stinson and Jones reached on a single and was once again plated by Cerreto on a double down the right field line.
Le Moyne pushed ahead 3-2 in the top half of the seventh on a Marra double to right center to score Wiley.
In the eighth, Le Moyne pushed two runs across thanks to a wild pitch that scored Stinson and Don Schaaf (Middle Island, N.Y./Longwood). Longwood responded in its half of the eighth as Cerreto connected for his third hit of the day, a home run over the left field fence to pull within two runs at 5-3. Following a strike out to Justin Lacey, Scott Kimble made it a one-run game with a solo home run to center field.
Le Moyne broke the game open in the top of the ninth as Ciraco led off with a solo blast to left field. Marra followed and reached base on a hit by pitch, stole second and came around to score on throwing errors by the Longwood catcher and center fielder to push the Dolphin lead to 7-4. Stinson's one-out double to right-center pushed across seniors Sean Paino (Wappinger Falls, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham) and Chris Edmondson (Johnson City, N.Y./Johnson City) for a 9-4 lead.
Mike Anarumo (Levittown, N.Y./MacArthur) pitched a scoreless ninth to close the door on the Lancers and secure the 12th victory of the season.
