#10 LOUISVILLE RALLIES PAST BASEBALL FOR 6-5 VICTORY IN 10 INNINGS

Louisville, Ky. - Cade Stallings drilled a three-run homer to left field in the 10th inning to give 10th-ranked Louisville a 6-5 win over the Le Moyne College baseball team on Saturday afternoon at Patterson Stadium.

The Dolphins opened the scoring in the third inning with one run on two hits and a Louisville error. After senior first baseman Rich Brown (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) singled to left center with one out, sophomore catcher Kyle Kalaka (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham) singled through the right side and advanced to second base, while Brown came around to score on a throwing error by the right fielder.

Le Moyne increased its lead to 2-0 in the sixth inning with a run on a pair of hits. Senior left fielder Chris Edmondson (Johnson City, N.Y./Johnson City) singled to left field with two outs and scored one batter later on a double to left field by classmate Sean Paino (Wappinger Falls, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham).

The Cardinals, who are ranked 10th by Baseball America, 11th in the NCBWA poll and 13th by Collegiate Baseball, evened the score with two runs on two hits in the bottom of the seventh inning. Drew Haynes walked to open the frame and stole second base in between two fly outs. Ryan Wright then singled to center field to drive in Haynes. Following a stolen base by Wright, Phil Wunderlich doubled to left center to tie the score.

After neither team scored in the eighth or ninth innings, seven total runs were scored in the extra frame. The Dolphins tallied three runs (all with two outs) on three hits and an error. Kalaka got the offense going with a single through the left side in between a pair of strikeouts. Freshman second baseman Zack Wiley (Toluca Woods, Calif./Crespi) then singled and advanced to second on the throw, allowing Kalaka to move to third. After Edmondson was intentionally walked to load the bases, Paino reached on an error by the first baseman to allow Kalaka and Wiley to cross the plate. Sophomore shortstop Matt Marra (Brewerton, N.Y./Central Square) followed with a single up the middle to knock in Edmondson.

Louisville, which defeated the Dolphins, 8-1, on Friday afternoon, rallied with four runs in its half of the 10th on three hits. Wunderlich opened the inning by drilling the second pitch over the fence in right center. After a walk to Arnold forced a Le Moyne pitching change, Stewart Ijames singled through the right side. Following a sacrifice bunt by Drew Fitzpatrick to move each base-runner up a base, Stallings blasted a 1-2 pitch to left field to end the game.

Gabriel Shaw picked up the win for the Cardinals despite allowing three runs (all unearned) in only one inning on the mound. Junior southpaw Tom McDermott (Amsterdam, N.Y./Amsterdam) took the loss after giving up two runs on a pair of hits in one-third of an inning. Junior lefty Cory Nelson (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) struck out five batters in six scoreless innings for the Dolphins, while allowing just three hits. Wiley, Brown and Kalaka each had two hits and a run scored to lead the Le Moyne offense, while Wunderlich had three hits and two runs batted in.

Le Moyne (4-5), which has lost two games to the same opponent for the first time this season, closes out its three-game series with the Cardinals on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
