Niles, Ohio – Blake Aquadro tossed a complete game three-hitter to lead Youngstown State to a 4-1 win over the Le Moyne College baseball team on Sunday afternoon at Eastwood Field.
After five and one-half scoreless innings, Youngstown State scored the game's first run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Derek Carr walked with one out and proceeded to steal second base. After Carr advanced to third on a wild pitch, Tom Clayton doubled to left center to drive in Carr.
The Penguins extended their lead to 4-0 with three runs on two hits and a Le Moyne error in the eighth inning. Jeremy Banks walked and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Carr. Jacke Healey then singled to left field to drive in Banks. Following a pitching change by the Dolphins, Healey stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error by the catcher. After Clayton was intentionally walked and stole second base, pinch-hitter Armani Johnson registered a sacrifice fly to center field to plate Healey. Joe Iacobucci followed with a single to right field to knock in Clayton.
The Dolphins got on the scoreboard in the ninth inning with one run on a hit and an error. Sophomore right fielder Brett Botsford (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) reached second on a fielding error by the center fielder to open the inning. Following a single by freshman second baseman Zack Wiley (Toluca Woods, Calif./Crespi) that moved Botsford to third, senior left fielder Chris Edmondson (Johnson City, N.Y./Johnson City) lifted a sac fly to right field to plate Botsford. Aquadro was able to get a strike out and a fly out to end the game.
Aquadro struck out five batters without issuing a walk in going the distance, while allowing just the unearned run on three hits. Sophomore southpaw Mark Kuzma (Waverly, N.Y./Waverly) took the loss for the Dolphins after yielding one run on four hits in six innings, while striking out five batters.
Le Moyne (20-21), which was held to its second-lowest hit total of the season, returns to action on Tuesday at UAlbany at 3:00 p.m.
