Newton, Mass. – Lauren Costello had a hand in seven goals to lead Boston College to a 17-6 victory over the Le Moyne College women's lacrosse team on Saturday afternoon at Newton Campus Field.
Boston College jumped out to a 4-0 lead through the opening 11:23 of the contest. Brooke Blue scored the game's first goal off a feed from Costello 41 seconds in. Peyton Killeen followed with a goal off a free-position shot at the 26:28. Costello then picked up consecutive assists on goals by Brittany Wilton and Brooke Blue.
The Dolphins broke through with consecutive goals to cut their deficit in half with 10:13 remaining in the half. Freshman Brenna Bauer (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton) scored at the 15:12 mark, while sophomore Brittany Brigandi (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy/UMass) found the back of the net off a pass from junior Leah Lazarz (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool).
The Eagles answered back with three straight goals to take a 7-2 lead. Costello scored at the 7:57 and 2:30 marks, while Sam Taylor scored off a free-position shot with 7:15 to go.
Le Moyne closed out the half with a pair of goals to get within 7-4 at the intermission. The Dolphins were the beneficiary of an errant Boston College pass that went into the goal. Junior Michelle Phillips (Johnson City, N.Y./Maine-Endwell) beat the halftime horn by scoring her 16t goal of the year with one second left.
Boston College exploded out of the gates in the second half with seven straight goals to take a 10-goal lead. Costello and Taylor each scored twice in the run, while Hannah Alley, Blue and Kate Rooney also tallied goals.
Brigandi, who missed Le Moyne's last six games due to injury, answered with a pair of goals, her team-leading 28th and 29th of the season, in a span of 2:49 to make the score 14-6.
The Eagles capped the game's scoring with three goals over the final 6:31. Mary Stinson netted back-to-back free-position shots, while Suzanne Cannon delivered the final score with a goal at the 3:13 mark.
Sophomore goalkeeper Kelly Fucillo (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) made eight saves in the contest for the Dolphins, while Sheila Serafino turned away four shots for the Eagles in 51:06 and Catherine Conway made one save in 8:54 between the pipes.
Le Moyne (9-6), which improved its record by five games from last year, won nine of its final 12 games after opening the year 0-3.
