SOFTBALL EDGED BY ADELPHI, 1-0, IN FIRST ROUND OF NORTHEAST-10 CHAMPIONSHIPS

Garden City, N.Y. – Adelphi plated the game-winning run on two-out fielding error in the bottom of the seventh inning for a 1-0 win over the Le Moyne College softball team on Tuesday afternoon in the first round of the Northeast-10 Conference Softball Championships.

After six and one-half scoreless innings, the Panthers loaded the bases without any outs on bunt singles by center fielder Emily Dorko and left fielder Amy Ogden and an intentional walk to third baseman Shay Craig. Freshman pitcher Sarah Harrison (Cobleskill, N.Y./Cobleskill-Richmondville) then struck out first baseman Amanda Krier swinging and shortstop Jeanine Leo looking. Catcher Deandra Leo then lifted a fly ball between the second baseman and the right fielder, who collided, allowing the ball to fall and Dorko to score the winning run.

Harrison suffered the loss after giving up the unearned run on just three hits, while striking out eight. Junior designated player Kelcie Cashel (Lacona, N.Y./Sandy Creek) led Le Moyne's offensive attack with two hits. Leighann Bell earned the win for the Panthers after striking out four in the complete-game performance, while allowing just five hits.

Le Moyne (18-21-1) finishes the season with less than 20 wins for the first time since the 1999 season
