BOTSFORD HAS THREE HITS AS #14/17 BASEBALL POSTS 2-1 WIN OVER NEW HAVEN

Syracuse, N.Y. – Senior center fielder Brett Botsford (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) had three hits and scored the winning run as the #14/17 Le Moyne College baseball team defeated New Haven, 2-1, on Saturday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference Southwest Division play at Dick Rockwell Field.

After four scoreless innings to start the game, both teams scored in the fifth frame. The Chargers scored their run on two hits and a Le Moyne error. Center fielder Brendan O'Reilly led off with a single up the middle and moved to second on a single through the left side by right fielder Stephen Clout. After an out, shortstop Ryan Brockett reached on an error by the shortstop, which allowed O'Reilly to race home for the game's first run.

The Dolphins took the lead in the bottom of the inning with two runs on two hits and two New Haven errors. With one out, senior catcher Kyle Kalaka (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham) singled to left and advanced to second as the left fielder let the ball get by him. Two batters later, Botsford doubled down the left field line to knock in Kalaka. After junior second baseman Vincent Redmond (Ithaca, N.Y./Lansing/Garrett College) was hit by a pitch for the second time in the game and senior third baseman Matt Marra (Brewerton, N.Y./Central Square) reached on an error by the third baseman to load the bases, junior shortstop Ryan Mahoney (Clay, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) was hit by a pitch to force in Botsford.

Junior righty Derek Zielinski (Schenectady, N.Y./Colonie) earned his conference-best seventh win of the season after striking out four batters over six innings on the mound, while yielding an unearned run on four hits. Senior Erik Lambe (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) picked up his third save after tossing three scoreless innings, while striking out three. John Melville took the loss after giving up two runs (one earned) on six hits over six and two-thirds innings.

Le Moyne (25-8-1, 10-4-1 NE-10, 5-2 SW), which is unbeaten at home this year, completes its series with the Chargers on Sunday with a doubleheader beginning at 12:00 p.m.
