#12/18 BASEBALL FALLS TO SAINT ROSE, 4-2, IN SOUTHWEST DIVISION PLAY

Albany, N.Y. – Bryan Carr struck out five batters to lead The College of Saint Rose to a 4-2 win over the #12/18 nationally-ranked Le Moyne College baseball team on Tuesday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference Southwest Division play at Bob Bellizzi Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex.

The Golden Knights opened the scoring in the contest with a run on two hits in the third inning. Left fielder Ryan Hooker led off with a single up the middle and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. After the second out of the inning, second baseman Kyle Charron doubled to center field to drive in Hooker.

Saint Rose added to its lead with three runs on three hits and a Le Moyne error in the bottom of the sixth. Designated hitter Caleb Gleason opened the frame with a single to right field, but was retired at second as shortstop Alex Ferenti reached on a fielder's choice. After a double down the left field line by third baseman Jevonte Osterhout that moved Ferenti to third, right fielder Justin Lewis reached on an error by the right fielder, allowing Ferenti to score. Osterhout then scored from third on a sacrifice bunt by Hooker. Center fielder Nikko Wahl followed with a single to right field to plate Lewis from second.

Le Moyne got on the scoreboard in the top of the eighth inning with a run on two hits. Junior right fielder Zack Wiley (Toluca Woods, Calif./Crespi) doubled down the left field line with one out and came around to score on a two-out triple to left center by junior shortstop Ryan Mahoney (Clay, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse).

The Dolphins added a run in the ninth inning on one hit to deliver the final score. Senior designated hitter Matthew Ciraco (White Plains, N.Y./Perkiomen School) walked to open the frame and moved to second with two outs. Junior second baseman Vincent Redmond (Ithaca, N.Y./Lansing/Garrett College) then singled up the middle to drive in Ciraco. With the potential tying-run at the plate, Kris Barone was able to induce a pop up to the shortstop for the final out.

Carr allowed just three hits in tossing six scoreless innings for his second win of the season. Barone retired three of the five batters he faced in the ninth inning to record his first save. Senior southpaw Mike Anarumo (Levittown, N.Y./MacArthur) yielded four runs (one earned) on nine hits over five and two-thirds innings to suffer his first loss of the campaign. Mahoney and junior first baseman Paul Speicher (Shrewsbury, Mass./Shrewsbury) each had two hits for the Dolphins, while Wahl had three and Charron, Osterhout and Hooker had two apiece for the Golden Knights.

Le Moyne (20-6-1, 6-2-1 NE-10, 3-2 SW), which falls behind in the three-game series that makes up the baseball part of the year-long Upstate Challenge between the two institutions that the Golden Knights clinched in January, returns to action on Thursday at St. Thomas Aquinas at 4:00 p.m.
