CANNON AND MAHONEY LEAD #22 BASEBALL TO 4-0 WIN OVER AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL

Syracuse, N.Y. – Junior righty Casey Cannon (Manasquan, N.J./Saint Rose/U. of Delaware) tossed a three-hit shutout and junior shortstop Ryan Mahoney (Clay, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) blasted two home runs to lead the 22nd-ranked Le Moyne College baseball team to a 4-0 win over American International on Tuesday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference Southwest Division action at Dick Rockwell Field.

The Dolphins opened the game's scoring with two runs on four hits in the second inning. Mahoney led off the frame by launching a 1-0 pitch over the left field wall. After junior first baseman Paul Speicher (Shrewsbury, Mass./Shrewsbury) singled in between a pair of outs, sophomore left fielder Nate Reynolds (Johnson City, N.Y./Maine-Endwell) doubled to left field to push Speicher to third. Junior second baseman Vincent Redmond (Ithaca, N.Y./Lansing/Garrett College) then singled up the middle to drive in Speicher.

Le Moyne added two runs in the bottom of the third on solo home runs. Junior right fielder Zack Wiley (Toluca Woods, Calif./Crespi) blasted the first pitch he saw over the fence in left field to lead off the inning. Two batters later, Mahoney drilled his fifth homer of the year to left field.

Cannon registered his league-leading seventh win and league-best second shutout of the season after striking seven batters, while allowing just four base-runners, only one of which reached second base. Mahoney and Reynolds each accounted for two of Le Moyne's nine hits. Cam MacDonald suffered the loss for the Yellow Jackets after giving up four runs on nine hits over seven innings on the mound.

Le Moyne (32-12-1, 17-8-1 NE-10, 12-6 SW), which took two of three games from the Yellow Jackets on the year, closes out the regular season with a three-game series at Assumption on Saturday and Sunday. The teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 12:00 p.m.
