Syracuse, N.Y. – Freshmen attackers Claire and Maggie Monnat (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) each scored three goals to lead the fourth-ranked Le Moyne College women's lacrosse team to a 12-9 win over seventh-ranked West Chester University on Friday afternoon in non-conference action at Ted Grant Field.

The Dolphins jumped out to a 3-0 lead on the Golden Rams over the first 1:24 of the game. Senior attacker Kelly Condon (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua) started the scoring just 24 seconds into the contest by finishing off a pass from junior attacker Kathleen Conese (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) from the front edge of the crease. Senior attacker Brenna Bauer (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton) won the ensuing draw and raced in for her 25th goal of the year just nine seconds later. Maggie Monnat capped the spurt by converting a free-position shot with 28:36 remaining in the half.

The Golden Rams, who have appeared in nine of the last NCAA Championship games, including title wins in 2002 and 2008, broke through with an unassisted goal by Lauren Glassey at the 28:05 mark.

Le Moyne, which had its undefeated season ended by the Golden Rams last year in West Chester, 15-12, extended its lead to 5-1 with a pair of goals nine and one-half minutes apart. Conese cut down the center of the field before sliding to her left for her 31st goal of the campaign with 26:53 remaining, while Claire Monnat recorded her first goal of the day on a free-position shot in an extra-man situation with 17:17 left to force a West Chester timeout.

Out of the timeout, the Golden Rams scored four straight goals over a span of 6:28 to tie the score at five apiece. Jamie Dolan, who scored twice in last year's victory, started the run with an unassisted tally with 15:51 remaining. Just 41 seconds later, Brittany Long netted an unassisted goal to cut her team's deficit in half. After the Dolphins had a shot hit off the post, Long pulled West Chester within one by finishing off a feed from Glassey in front of the cage with 12:21 remaining. Following a Le Moyne turnover to the right of its goal, Nicole Pyle converted a free-position shot for her 30th goal of the year with 9:23 left to tie the score and force a Le Moyne timeout.

The Dolphins regained the lead with a transition goal after sophomore goalkeeper Molly Marbut (Edgewater, Md./South River) made a save. Senior defender Molly Maroney (Syracuse, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) cleared the ball before finding Claire Monnat, who cut from the right wing to record her 16th goal of the season with 5:32 remaining. Less than two minutes later, Claire completed her hat trick and gave the Dolphins a 7-5 lead by finishing off a feed from Maggie. The sisters reversed roles against American International in the only other time this season they've teamed on a goal.

Dolan trimmed Le Moyne's lead to 7-6 with 18 seconds remaining in the half after scooping up the ball after Marbut saved her initial shot in an extra-man situation.

Off the ensuing draw control, Maggie Monnat netted her second goal of the day with just nine seconds left in the stanza after taking a pass from Condon.

Following almost 11 minutes of scoreless action to start the second half, Dolan recorded her third goal of the afternoon to pull the Golden Rams within 8-7. Three minutes later, Sarah Dennison evened the score at eight apiece after taking a pass from Dolan and spinning past her defender.

After controlling the ball for almost two minutes, the Dolphins regained the lead as senior midfielder Jennifer Fabian (Clay, N.Y./C.W. Baker) converted a free-position shot with 14:02 left for her 18th goal of the year. Le Moyne doubled its lead with 11:53 remaining as Conese tallied her team-best 32nd goal of the year.

After causing a turnover on a West Chester clear attempt and picking up the loose ball, Maggie Monnat scored from the left edge of the crease with 7:01 left off a pass from Bauer. Just 11 seconds later, freshman midfielder Kaitlyn Armstrong (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego) cut down the middle of the field, received a pass from Condon and fired a shot into the back of the net for her 11th goal of the season. The assist marked the 63rd of Condon's career, tying her for fifth on the program's all-time chart.

Dennison converted a free-position shot with 4:30 remaining to pull the Golden Rams within 12-9, but that was West Chester's last shot of the game.

Marbut, who leads the nation in save percentage (55.9), registered seven saves in recording her 11t straight win between the pipes. Jess Henderson made nine saves in the loss for the Golden Rams. Le Moyne, which entered the game 52nd (out of 75) in the nation in draw controls at 11.31 per game, while West Chester ranked sixth at 15.79, won 16 of the 23 draws, including seven of the eight in the second half. The Dolphin defense held West Chester senior attacker Tori Dugan, who scored four goals and had an assist in last year's meeting and entered the game with 31 goals and 33 assists this year, without a point for the first time in her 56-game West Chester career.

Le Moyne (13-2), which wraps up its regular season schedule on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. against Franklin Pierce University, will win its second straight Northeast-10 Conference regular season title and the rite to host the Conference Championships with a win over the Ravens. Prior to the game, the senior class of Fabian, Bauer, Maroney, Condon, defender Caitlin Yaro (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) and midfielder Gabrielle Kamide (Deferiet, N.Y./Carthage) will be honored by the Dolphin Athletic Association for their contributions to the program.
