Syracuse, N.Y. – Sophomore middle hitter
Allegra Lee Bell (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) hit .526 to lead the Le Moyne College volleyball team to a 3-0 win over Merrimack College on Friday evening in Northeast-10 Conference action at Ted Grant Court.
After the Warriors took a 7-6 lead in the first set, the Dolphins rattled off five straight points to force a Merrimack timeout. The teams then traded points the remainder of the set, with Le Moyne's lead bouncing between three and five points, en route to a 25-20 win. The Dolphins scored five of the first six points in the second set and eventually increased their lead to 18-10. The Warriors closed within two on three occasions (19-17, 20-18 and 21-19), but the Dolphins countered with three straight points and four of the last five for another 25-20 victory. The teams alternated points over the first half of the third set, leading to a 14-14 tie. Le Moyne then recorded seven straight points around a Merrimack timeout to take control of the set. The teams then traded points over the next eight serves, resulting in a 25-18 win for the Dolphins.
Bell landed 10 kills in the match, the second-highest total of her career, while adding two blocks and an assist. Classmate
Andrea Buchanan (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg) also posted 10 kills, while recording seven digs, an assist and a service ace. Senior setter
Megan Maisonet (Pine Bush, N.Y./Pine Bush) registered her team-best 10th double-double of the season with 36 assists and a team-high 10 digs.
Stephanie Sheehan led the Warriors with a match-high 11 kills, while adding three digs and a block. Corrine Gosselin hit .533 en route to nine kills and added four digs. Tara Stuhr directed the Merrimack offense with 32 assists, while posting nine digs and four kills. Madison Burke led the Warriors defensively with a match-high 12 digs.
Le Moyne (6-10, 3-4 NE-10), which snapped a two-match losing skid, returns to action on Friday at Saint Michael's College at 5:00 p.m.
