New Haven, Conn. – Sophomore outside hitter
Andrea Buchanan (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg) registered a double-double to lead the Le Moyne College volleyball team to a 3-2 victory over Southern Connecticut State University on Saturday afternoon in a Northeast-10 Conference matchup at Pelz Gymnasium.
Southern Connecticut opened the match by winning the first set, 25-19. The Dolphins answered back with a 25-14 victory in the second set to knot the match at one apiece. The Owls regained the lead with a 25-23 win in the third set. Le Moyne stayed alive in the match by capturing the fourth game, 25-19. After falling behind 5-2 in the decisive fifth set, the Dolphins scored seven straight points en route to closing out the match with a 15-10 win.
Buchanan recorded 13 kills and 14 digs to register her fifth double-double of the season, while adding an ace and two block assists. Senior middle hitter
Kristen Willets (Apalachin, N.Y./Vestal) tallied a team-best 15 kills, six digs, three block assists and two service aces. Sophomore outside hitter
Natalie Casson (Kingman, Ariz./Kingman) was the third Dolphin with double-digit kills with 11, while adding seven digs and two aces. Senior setter
Megan Maisonet (Pine Bush, N.Y./Pine Bush) directed the offense with 48 assists, tied for the second-most in her career (against Southern Connecticut last year), while adding five digs and two aces. Sophomore
Maura Fay (Cornwall, N.Y./Cornwall) registered a career-best 26 digs, tied for the most by a Dolphin over the last three years.
Nicole Hauser led the Owls with a triple-double of 22 kills, 12 digs and 11 assists. Kelly Gunneson added 13 kills and three digs, while Morgan Carman and Alisha Noble had 24 and 10 digs, respectively. Taylor Carlson paced the SCSU offense with 27 assists.
Le Moyne (5-8, 2-2 NE-10), which has won three straight matches, travels to Albany on Tuesday to take on The College of Saint Rose in an "Upstate Challenge" match at 7:00 p.m.
