Colchester, Vt. – Senior attacker Kathleen Conese (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) scored a pair of goals to give the Le Moyne College women's lacrosse team the lead for good en route to a 9-5 win at Saint Michael's College on Saturday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action at Duffy Field.
The Purple Knights got on the scoreboard first with an unassisted goal by Kate Boyer 3:29 into the game.
Following almost 11 minutes of scoreless action, the Dolphins scored three times in a span of 99 seconds. Sophomore midfielder Kaitlyn Armstrong (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego) evened the score at one apiece with 15:38 remaining in the half after taking a pass from graduate student attacker Marley Ciferri (Ithaca, N.Y./Ithaca/Syracuse). Sophomore midfielder Danielle Kealy (Lorraine, N.Y./South Jefferson) gave the Dolphins their first lead with 14:14 left with her fourth tally of the season. After winning the ensuing draw control and getting fouled, freshman midfielder Vicki Graveline (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee) converted a free-position shot.
Saint Michael's answered back with a pair of goals to knot the score at three. Following a Le Moyne turnover, Claire Martin finished off a feed from Courtney Piper with 12:17 left, while Boyer tied the score with 8:54 remaining with her 20th goal of the season.
Following a caused turnover by junior midfielder Laura Hoffman (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua), Conese netted her 15th goal of the year with 3:00 left in the half to put the Dolphins in front. She then pushed the lead to 5-3 with an unassisted goal 2:59 into the second half.
After the Dolphins took their first three-goal lead of the contest on an unassisted tally by sophomore attacker Mary Fadden (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) at the 23:09 mark, Steph Bonewald converted a free-position shot with 21:12 left to snap a scoring drought of 17:42 by the Purple Knights.
The teams then traded free-position goals before the Dolphins closed out the game's scoring. Junior attacker Julia Suriani (Buffalo, N.Y./West Seneca East) converted an attempt from the eight-meter arc with 19:44 left, while Shannon Murphy countered with a goal off a free-position shot with 16:53 remaining.
Junior attacker Catie McKay (Penfield, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) capped the scoring in the game with a pair of goals over the final 13:24. She finished off a feed from freshman midfielder Molly McGuane (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus) with 13:24 remaining, while netting her 14th goal of the season with 7:38 left after taking a feed from Ciferri.
Junior goalkeeper Molly Marbut (Edgewater, Md./South River) recorded five saves, including three in the second half, to earn her second win of the week. Casey Curtin registered 13 saves in the setback for the Purple Knights.
Le Moyne (9-3, 6-2 NE-10), which has averaged 5.33 goals allowed over the last three games after giving up double-digit goals in back-to-back games, travels to Garden City, N.Y. on Wednesday to take on second-ranked Adelphi University at 3:00 p.m.
