Box Score 2 Wheeling, W. Va. – The Le Moyne College volleyball team dropped a pair of matches on Saturday afternoon at the Wheeling Jesuit University Invitational at the McDonough Center. The Dolphins fell to Shepherd University, 3-0, in their first match and then were defeated by the host Cardinals, 3-0, in the final match of the two-day event.
Shepherd opened the match with a 26-24 win in the first game. The Rams doubled their lead in the contest with a 25-17 victory in the second game and then put the match away with a 25-23 win in the third game. Due to technical difficulties, complete statistics are not currently available.
Against Wheeling Jesuit, the Dolphins dropped the first game, 25-22. The Cardinals then cruised to a 25-6 victory in the second game for a 2-0 lead. Wheeling Jesuits closed out the match with a 25-12 win in the third game.
A trio of Dolphins each had five kills in the match. Sophomore outside hitter
Natalie Casson (Kingman, Ariz./Kingman) added seven digs and an assist to her five kills, while classmate
Andrea Buchanan (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg) recorded six digs and a pair of block assists and freshman
Danica Durdines (Alta Loma, Calif./Los Osos) posted three digs and three block assists. Senior setter
Megan Maisonet (Pine Bush, N.Y./Pine Bush) tallied 17 assists and 16 digs for her sixth double-double of the season, while sophomore libero
Annie Stoklosa (Victor, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) registered a match-high 19 digs.
Maddy Smyth led the 11th-ranked Cardinals with a match-best eight kills. Corrin Early and Rachel Caja each had seven kills, while Early registered 11 digs and Caja posted three blocks. Andrea Thobe directed the Wheeling Jesuit offense with 32 assists, while adding four digs and three service aces. Makenzie Ripley and Kayce Krucki led the Cardinals defensively with 17 and 13 digs, respectively.
Le Moyne (2-6) opens Northeast-10 Conference action on Saturday against Adelphi University at 2:00 p.m.
