Syracuse, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College men's tennis team closed out its Fall schedule with a 7-2 loss to Merrimack College on Sunday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action at the Skytop Tennis Courts.
The Dolphins picked up their first point of the match at the top doubles position as junior
James Gayvert (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) and sophomore
Hallam Doney (Andover, Hampshire/Peter Symonds) registered an 8-6 win over Steven Francis and Mikhail Belov. Merrimack earned its first point at the third spot as Frank Vega and Tyler Clontz were 8-1 winners over junior
Benjamin Spoor (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Ballston Spa) and freshman
Tyler Underwood (Minoa, N.Y./East Syracuse-Minoa). At the second spot, Miguel Belfort and Nick Majewski posted an 8-4 victory over sophomore
Jason Barton (Lima, Ohio/Shawnee) and junior
Steven Procopio (Jamesville, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt).
In singles action, Gayvert tallied Le Moyne's second point by defeating Francis in three sets at the top position, 5-7, 6-4, 10-7. Belov was a 6-4, 7-5 winner over Barton at second singles, while Vega posted a 6-2, 6-3 victory at the third spot against Doney. Belfort turned in a 6-1, 6-0 win at fourth singles over redshirt senior
Stephane Legris (Queensbury, N.Y./Queensbury/Adirondack C.C.), while Majewski recorded consecutive scores of 6-0 at the fifth position against Procopio. At the sixth spot, Alex Slobin edged Spoor 7-6 (7-5), 7-5.
