WOMEN’S BASKETBALL’S FOURTH-PERIOD RALLY FALLS SHORT IN 69-62 LOSS TO CALDWELL

Syracuse, N.Y. – Senior guard Vandell Andrade (Cranston, R.I./St. Mary's-Bay View/Rhode Island College) tallied a career-high 33 points, but it wasn't enough as the Le Moyne College women's basketball team fell to Caldwell University, 69-62, on Sunday afternoon at Ted Grant Court.

Andrade, who added 16 rebounds (nine offensive), four assists and two steals to her line, eclipsed her previous career high of 26 points, which she set against Southern Connecticut State last February. The 33 points, 22 of which came in the second half, are tied for the fourth-most by a Dolphin in the program's history and are the most since Jennifer Feher '04 tallied 33 at Bentley on January 15, 2005. Her 13 field goals made are tied for the most in a single game, as are the 24 field goal attempts. Senior forward Maggie Brown (Cortland, N.Y./Cortland) registered her second straight double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds, while posting four steals for the second straight contest.

Sharell Sanders led three Cougars in double digits with 17 points, while adding six steals. Karlie O'Driscoll and Kristen Drogsler each tallied 14 points, while O'Driscoll had eight rebounds and Drogsler added four rebounds.

After falling behind 4-0, the Dolphins scored seven of the next nine points to take the lead for the final time. Andrade had five of the points, while she fed sophomore forward Courtney Webster (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) for the first basket.

Caldwell answered with 11 straight points to take the lead for good. O'Driscoll, Sanders and Drogsler each had three points, while Nicole Angelo made a lay-up.

Brown made a pair of jumpers to get the Dolphins within six, but Antoinette Pilla made a fast-break lay-up to close out the period's scoring.

Angelo nailed a three-pointer with 8:15 left in the second to push Caldwell's lead to nine, but the Dolphins answered with 11 of the next 14 points to get within one point. Andrade tallied the first four points with Brown capping the streak with a jumper off a steal.

Caldwell scored the last six points of the period, including the final four by Pilla, to take a 33-26 lead into halftime.

The Cougars tallied the first eight points of the third period to take control of the game. O'Driscoll started and capped the streak with baskets, while Kristen Siscamanis made a pair of shots in between.

After the Dolphins scored six of the next 10 points to get within 13 with 5:22 left, Caldwell blew the game open with 11 of the next 14 points. Five Cougars accounted for the 11 points, led by three from Drogsler.

Le Moyne scored five straight points to get within 16, but Andie Lennon made two free throws to give Caldwell a 58-40 lead after three periods.

Le Moyne mounted comeback in the fourth period with 13 of the first 16 points. Andrade had seven of the points, while Brown had the other six.

After Drogsler buried a three-pointer to push Caldwell's lead back to 11 with 4:09 left, Le Moyne tallied nine of the next 10 points to cut its deficit to just three points with 1:27 to go. Andrade netted all nine points on four lay-ups and a free throw.

Caldwell closed out the scoring with the final four points around three missed shots by the Dolphins and one Le Moyne turnover.

Le Moyne (1-1), which dropped its second game of the season for the first time under third-year head coach Gina Castelli, opens Northeast-10 Conference action on Wednesday against the University of New Haven at 5:00 p.m.
