Myrtle Beach, S.C. – Sophomore center fielder
Sabrina Riley (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) drove in four runs to lead the Le Moyne College softball team to a 6-3 win over Ohio Valley University on Friday afternoon at the Fast Pitch Dreams Tournament.
The Dolphins got on the scoreboard first with one run on two hits and an Ohio Valley error in the first inning. Junior right fielder
Kirsten Trotta (Wilmington, Del./Alexis I. Dupont) singled to the shortstop with one out and moved to second on an error by the first baseman. Following a fly out, sophomore third baseman
Kelly Mascari (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill/Buffalo) singled to center to plate Trotta.
Le Moyne scored three runs on four hits in the fourth inning to take a 4-0 lead. The Dolphins loaded the bases on singles by freshman second baseman
Tess Andrews (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee), junior left fielder
Allison Reynolds (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield) and sophomore shortstop
Courtney Case (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon). After Andrews was retired at home as Trotta reached on a fielder's choice, Riley doubled to left center to drive in Reynolds, Case and Trotta.
The Dolphins tacked on two runs in the sixth inning on three hits. Case led off with a single to center, stole second and then moved to third on a ground out. Riley then lifted a sacrifice fly to right field to knock in her classmate. Following a double to right field by Mascari, senior catcher
Kristie Capuano (Smithtown, N.Y./Hauppauge) singled to right field to drive in sophomore pinch-runner
Morgan Hope (Binghamton, N.Y./Chenango Valley).
Ohio Valley scored three times in the bottom of the seventh to cut its final deficit in half. Second baseman Krystine Ball doubled to left to open the frame and came around to score on a one-out double to center by center fielder Morgan Wilson. First baseman Danielle Dunnagan followed with the third double of the frame to drive in Wilson. Catcher Alexandra de Medeiros Smith then reached on a throwing error by the shortstop, which allowed Dunnagan to score.
Redshirt junior pitcher
Toni Secreti (Baldwinsville, N.Y./Westhill/Herkimer C.C.) tossed six scoreless innings, while striking out two and yielding two hits, to earn her third victory of the week. Mascari tallied three of Le Moyne's 14 hits, while Case, Capuano and freshman designated player
Alexis Eastman (Endicott, N.Y./Union-Endicott) had two hits apiece. Melinda Koppinger took the loss for the Fighting Scots after giving up six runs on 14 hits over seven innings in the circle.
