SECOND-RANKED ADELPHI WINS SECOND STRAIGHT NE-10 CHAMPIONSHIP, 14-5, OVER FOURTH-RANKED WOMEN’S LACROSSE

Garden City, N.Y. – Alexa Froccaro tallied four goals to lead second-ranked and top-seeded Adelphi University to the Northeast-10 Conference Women's Lacrosse Championship with a 14-5 win over fourth-ranked and second-seeded Le Moyne College on Sunday afternoon at Motamed Field.

The teams, who entered the contest ranked first and second in this week's NCAA North Region rankings, now await word on bids for the NCAA Championships. The selections, four institutions from the North and four from the South, will be announced by the NCAA tonight at 8:00 on ncaa.com.

The Panthers, who have won five of the six NE-10 titles since joining the league prior to the 2009-10 academic year (Le Moyne claimed the other in 2013), jumped in front of the Dolphins with the first six goals. Rachel O'Brien started the scoring with an unassisted goal 71 seconds into the game. Just under two minutes later, Felicia Mills converted a free-position shot for her 12th goal of the year. Following two empty possessions by each team, Danielle Jaycox gave the Panthers a 3-0 lead with her 37th goal of the season with 22:49 left after taking a pass from Emily Keesling. Froccaro recorded her first goal of the day with 18:29 remaining off another assist by Keesling. O'Brien found the back of the net for the 35th time this season with an unassisted goal with 17:10 to go. After a save by Taylor Hayes on a Le Moyne free-position shot, Froccaro capped the run with her 63rd goal of the season with 12:00 remaining.

The Dolphins broke through with 8:25 left in the first half as junior attacker Maggie Monnat (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) finished off a feed from senior attacker Julia Suriani (Buffalo, N.Y./West Seneca East) for her 27th goal of the year. Junior attacker Erica Geremia (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee/SUNY Cortland) got the Dolphins within 6-2 with 3:41 left in the stanza by converting a free-position shot for her 66th goal of the year.

Froccaro netted her 64th goal of the campaign with 2:08 left off a pass from Rachel Aitkens to give the Panthers a 7-2 lead at halftime.

The teams split the first six goals of the second half. Mills started the scoring with a free-position goal with 27:45 remaining. Following saves by each goalkeeper, Monnat found the back of the net with a free-position shot with 23:25 remaining to make the score 8-3.

Adelphi scored the next two goals to take its first seven-goal lead. Following a Le Moyne turnover, O'Brien scored for the third time with 20:26 to play off a feed from Aitkens. Just over three minutes later, Keesling posted her 32nd goal of the year.

Le Moyne answered back with consecutive goals less than two minutes apart. Sophomore midfielder Amari Pollard (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) registered her 45th goal of the season with 13:19 after collecting a pass from Monnat. With 11:36 left, Pollard found Monnat on the left side for her third goal of the game.

The Panthers finished off the game's scoring with four goals over the last 10:42. Jaycox started the streak with a free-position goal with 10:42 left. Keesling added a free-position goal of her own 2:01 later. Michele Scannell picked up her eighth goal of the campaign with 6:06 left, while Froccaro netted her 65th goal with 4:47 to play off a feed from Aitkens.
