Rochester, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College men's tennis team opened its season with a 7-2 loss to Roberts Wesleyan College on Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action at the RWC Tennis Courts.
The Redhawks opened the match by sweeping the doubles competition. At the top spot, Robert Beer and Jose Lopez Tapia registered an 8-5 victory over juniors
James Gayvert (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) and
Benjamin Spoor (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Ballston Spa). Charles Farres and Rene Torti were 8-5 winners over sophomores
Hallam Doney (Andover, Hampshire/Peter Symonds) and
Jason Barton (Lima, Ohio/Shawnee) at the second spot, while Dustin Eshleman and Gui Plentz de Liz recorded an 8-5 win at the third spot over senior
Stephane Legris (Queensbury, N.Y./Queensbury/Adirondack C.C.) and freshman
Tyler Underwood (Minoa, N.Y./East Syracuse-Minoa).
The Dolphins picked up their two points in the middle spots of the singles competition. Doney earned his sixth career win with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Lopez Tapia at the third spot. Legris tallied his 11th career victory with a 6-3, 6-4 win at fourth singles over Plentz de Liz. Farres recorded the fourth point of the match for Roberts Wesleyan with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Gayvert at the top spot, while Eshleman clinched the match for the Redhawks with a 6-1, 7-5 victory at the sixth position over junior
Steven Procopio (Jamesville, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt). Torti picked up a 6-3, 6-4 win at fifth singles against Spoor, while Beer completed the match with a 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 victory at second singles over Barton.
Le Moyne (0-1) returns to the courts at the ITA East Regional this weekend in Philadelphia.
