ADELPHI SNAPS WOMEN’S BASKETBALL’S SIX-GAME WIN STREAK, 62-48

Syracuse, N.Y. – Sierra Clark registered a double-double to lead Adelphi University to a 62-48 victory over the Le Moyne College women's basketball team on Saturday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference play at Ted Grant Court.

Freshman guard McKayla Roberts (North Syracuse, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) and junior forward Nicole Riddick (Albany, N.Y./Colonie/UMass Lowell) each had 10 points to pace the Le Moyne offense, while Roberts dished out six assists and Riddick grabbed six rebounds.

Clark tallied game-highs of 23 points and 16 rebounds, with 11 of her points and 10 of her rebounds coming in the first half. Simone Hobdy, in her first season with the Panthers after two years at Niagara, also posted a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Calli Balfour registered 19 points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals in the victory. Balfour improves to 6-2 in her career against the Dolphins and has posted averages of 15 points, 6.8 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.2 steals in the six wins, compared to totals of 12 points, seven rebounds, three assists and four steals in the two losses.

Adelphi opened the game with the first seven points over 4:18, five of which were scored by Balfour.

The Dolphins answered with a 9-2 run to knot the score at nine each. Riddick had the first three points and then junior guard Ellie Leszyk (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) made a pair of shots around a jumper by Roberts.

Clark made two foul shots with 17 seconds to give the Panthers an 11-9 lead after one quarter.

After the Dolphins tied the score at 11 in the first minute of the second quarter, the Panthers tallied five straight points and 12 of the next 14 to take control of the game. Julia Gnieser started the run with a three-pointer, Clark scored five points and then Balfour capped the streak with two free throws with 2:37 to go.

The Dolphins got within eight on three occasions over the last 2:20 of the half, the last of which came on three-pointer at the buzzer by junior guard Tine Randrup-Thomsen (Aarhus, Denmark/Aabyhoej IF/Murray State College/Colorado Mesa).

Le Moyne tallied 13 of the first 20 points in the third quarter to get within two points, 35-33, with 3:50 left in the period. Senior guard Ailayia Demand (Watervliet, N.Y./Watervliet) scored the first six points and Roberts capped the span with a three-pointer off a feed from Demand.

Adelphi responded with an 8-3 run to push its lead back to seven. Balfour had the first three points, while Clark had the final five.

Roberts got the Dolphins within 43-37 at the end of the quarter with a free throw with one second left.

After Clark gave the Panthers a nine-point lead 14 seconds into the fourth quarter, the Dolphins recorded an 11-5 run to get within three points, 51-48, with 2:43 remaining. Roberts scored four of the first six points, while Riddick tallied the final five points, including a three-pointer.

The Panthers pulled away with the final 11 points of the game over the last 90 seconds. Gnieser drained a three-pointer and then Hobdy scored six points around two free throws by Balfour.

Le Moyne (6-2, 3-1 NE10), which saw an end to its six-game win streak (tied for the third-longest in the program's history), hits the road to take on American International College on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
