Hallam Doney (Andover, Hampshire/Peter Symonds) was a double-winner as the Le Moyne College men's tennis team earned its first win of the season with a 6-3 victory over Daemen College on Saturday night at the Miller Tennis Center.
In doubles action, Doney teamed with junior
James Gayvert (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) to record an 8-1 win at the top position over Joey Gentile and Gregory Lowe. The Wildcats won the second and third spots to take a 2-1 lead in the match. At the second spot, Mark Veitengruber and Justin Milner were 8-2 winners over sophomore
Jason Barton (Lima, Ohio/Shawnee) and junior
Steven Procopio (Jamesville, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt), while Andrew LeMar and John LeMar recorded an 8-5 win over junior
Benjamin Spoor (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Ballston Spa) and freshman
Tyler Underwood (Minoa, N.Y./East Syracuse-Minoa) at number three.
In singles action, the Dolphins won five of the six positions to claim the victory. At the third position, Doney registered a 6-4, 6-3 win over Andrew LeMar for his team-best third win of the year. Barton earned his first dual-match win of the year by defeating Gentile at second singles, 6-1, 6-0. At the fourth spot, redshirt senior
Stephane Legris (Queensbury, N.Y./Queensbury/Adirondack C.C.) claimed a 7-6, 6-0 win over Lowe. Spoor turned in a 6-1, 6-3 win over John LeMar at fifth singles, while Underwood was a 6-3, 6-4 winner over Adam Kerr at the sixth spot. Veitengruber picked up Daemen's lone win in singles action via retirement as he led Gayvert at the top spot, 5-7, 6-3, 1-0.
Le Moyne (1-6) returns to action next Sunday hosting Union College at the DeWitt Gold's Gym at 12:00 p.m.
