WOMEN’S BASKETBALL REGISTERS 58-52 VICTORY OVER PACE

Syracuse, N.Y. – Senior guard Vandell Andrade (Cranston, R.I./St. Mary's-Bay View/Rhode Island College) scored 22 points to lead the Le Moyne College women's basketball team to a 58-52 victory over Pace University in Northeast-10 Conference action on Tuesday night at Ted Grant Court.

Andrade added eight rebounds, four steals and three assists to her game-high point total, 16 of which came in the second half. With her seventh point of the contest, she became the sixth player in the program's history to score at least 350 points in back-to-back seasons. With her 18th point, she moved past Jeanne Dupree '95 for 25th on the program's all-time scoring chart. Freshman guard Melanie Quijano (San Diego, Calif./Horizon Christian) tallied 11 second-half points as the only other Dolphin in double-figures. Senior forward Maggie Brown (Cortland, N.Y./Cortland) recorded nine points and four rebounds. With her fourth point of the night, she became the 23rd player in the program's history to reach the 800-point plateau.

Kirsten Dodge led three Setters in double-digits with 13 points, 11 of which came in the second half, while adding seven rebounds and six blocked shots. Gabriella Rubin scored 10 of her 12 points in the opening half, while also posting seven rebounds. Alexandra Monteleone registered 10 points in 30 minutes off the bench.

Pace opened the game with 10 of the first 12 points over 5:38. Rubin accounted for half of the points, while three other players tallied the other five points.

The Dolphins answered with the final 10 points of the opening quarter. Andrade scored the first four, junior guard Ailayia Demand (Watervliet, N.Y./Watervliet) and Brown made lay-ups and then sophomore forward Courtney Webster (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) knocked down a jumper with 31 seconds left for the lead.

Rubin opened the second quarter with a three-pointer to give the Setters the lead back, but that would be their last lead of the contest as the Dolphins scored nine of the next 11 points over almost seven minutes. Demand answered Rubin's three-pointer with one of her own, sophomore forward Corinne Poitevien (Bardonia, N.Y./Paramus Catholic (N.J.)) followed with a jumper in the paint and then Brown scored four points in 12 seconds.

Geena Rosalbo made a lay-up with 1:22 remaining in the quarter to pull the Setters within 21-17 at halftime.

After the teams traded baskets over the opening five minutes of the third quarter, the Setters scored five straight points to get within one, 27-26, with 3:18 remaining. Chelsea Schultz made a free throw, Rosalbo converted a lay-up and then Dodge hit a shot in the paint.

The Dolphins countered with a 5-1 spurt to push their lead back to five. Poitevien had the first two points and then Quijano drained a three-pointer off a pass from Brown.

Monteleone got Pace within 32-29 at the end of the quarter with a jumper with 14 seconds left.

Following back-and-forth action to begin the fourth quarter, the Dolphins posted a 7-2 run to take their largest lead of the game, 45-36, with 5:39 remaining. Quijano buried a three-pointer and two free throws and then Andrade converted  fast-break lay-up.

Pace got consecutive three-pointers from Monteleone and Jaclyn Oskam to trim its deficit to three, 45-42, with 4:14 left but could not get any closer as the Dolphins countered with another 7-2 run. Sophomore forward Joanna Dobrovosky (Skaneateles, N.Y./Skaneateles), who pulled down a career-high nine rebounds, scored the first three points, Andrade followed with a lay-up and then Brown made two free throws with 54 seconds to play for a 52-44 advantage.

The Dolphins went 6-of-8 from the foul line over the final 44 seconds to put the game away.

Le Moyne (12-11, 9-8 NE-10), which recorded its third straight win over the Setters at Grant Court (its longest such streak in the series history), returns to action next Wednesday for its home finale against Adelphi University at 5:00 p.m. Prior to tip-off, the senior class of Andrade, Brown and guard Lauren Salzbrenner (Sheboygan, Wis./Sheboygan North) will be honored by the Dolphin Athletic Association for their contributions to the program.
