SOFTBALL SPLITS WITH AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL, 0-1, 8-4, IN NE-10 OPENER

Springfield, Mass. – Senior left fielder/right fielder Allison Reynolds (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield) had two hits and drove in three runs to lead the Le Moyne College softball team to an 8-4 win over American International College in the second game of a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon at Judy Groff Field. The Yellow Jackets recorded a 1-0 win in the opening game.

The Dolphins got the scoring started in the nightcap with one run on one hit in the first inning. Junior center fielder Sabrina Riley (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) walked with two outs, stole second and then came around to score on a single by junior designated player Kelly Mascari (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill/Buffalo).

American International took the lead in the bottom of the first with two runs on three hits. Center fielder Keymell Cartwright singled to third base with one out and then stole second. After a pop out, third baseman Jorrdin Miller singled to right center to plate Cartwright. Catcher/designated player Jamie Mainez then singled to center to drive in Miller.

The Yellow Jackets extended their lead to 3-1 in the second as shortstop Sarah Baganz led off with a home run to left field.

Le Moyne took the lead back in the fourth with four runs on four hits and an American International error. Senior designated player Mackenzie Dreher (Hinckley, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) led off with a single to second base and then moved to second as sophomore second baseman Tess Andrews (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) reached on an error by the third baseman. After a sacrifice bunt and a strikeout, Reynolds tripled to right center to drive in Dreher and Andrews to even the score at three apiece and force an AIC pitching change. Junior shortstop Courtney Case (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon) drove the third pitch from the new pitcher into center field to plate Reynolds with the go-ahead run. Freshman left fielder Lauren Floyd (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) followed with a double to left center to score Case from first.

The Dolphins extended their lead to 7-3 in the top of the fifth with two runs on two hits and one AIC error. Dreher walked with one out and moved to second as Andrews reached on an error by the third baseman for the second straight inning. Following a groundout, junior catcher Emily Bagley (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster) singled to left field to drive in Dreher. Reynolds then singled to the shortstop to plate Andrews.

Le Moyne added another run in the sixth on three hits for a five-run lead. Floyd led off with a single to the pitcher, but was retired at second as Riley reached on a fielder's choice. Following a single to left center by Mascari, Riley scored from second on a double to center by freshman third baseman Lauren Zazzaro (Southington, Conn./Southington).

American International trimmed its deficit to 8-4 with a run on two hits in the bottom of the sixth. Pinch-hitter Kayla Riley singled to right field with one out and was replaced at first by pinch-runner Kristen Steele. Following a groundout, Baganz singled to center to drive in Steele.

Senior righty Toni Secreti (Baldwinsville, N.Y./Westhill/Herkimer C.C.) earned her sixth victory of the year after going the distance in the circle for the sixth time this season, while yielding four runs on nine hits. In addition to Reynolds' two-hit performance, Floyd, Mascari and Bagley each had two hits. Alyssa Camargo suffered her second loss of the season after allowing four runs (one earned) on three hits over three and two-thirds innings, while striking out two.

Following six and one-half innings of scoreless action in the opening game, the Yellow Jackets walked off with the win in the bottom of the seventh with one run on two hits and one untimely Le Moyne error. Designated player Kaley Kempf led off with a single to center and was replaced at first by pinch-runner Ashley Hughes. Miller followed with a single down the left field line and the two runners moved up a base on a groundout. After a pop out, the second pitch to the next batter went over the catcher's head. Hughes hesitated at third base, but then raced home with the winning run as the catcher's throw back to the pitcher was off the mark.

Sophomore righty Alexis Eastman (Endicott, N.Y./Union-Endicott) was the tough-luck loser after yielding an unearned run on four hits over six and two-thirds innings, while striking out four. Case recorded two of Le Moyne's three hits in the game, her team-best seventh multi-hit game of the year. Camargo earned the win for the Yellow Jackets after striking out four over seven scoreless innings, while giving up just three hits.

Le Moyne (13-6, 1-1 NE-10), which had its 10-game win streak against the Yellow Jackets snapped with the loss in game one, opens the home portion of its schedule on Saturday against Stonehill College at 12:00 p.m.
