Syracuse, N.Y. – Sophomore second baseman
Tess Andrews (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) blasted a three-run home run to lead the Le Moyne College softball team to a 6-2 win over American International College in Northeast-10 Conference Southwest Division action at the Thomas J. Niland Athletic Complex. The Yellow Jackets defeated the Dolphins, 2-1, in the nightcap of the doubleheader in non-conference play.
The Dolphins started the scoring in the opener with one run on one hit in the first inning. Junior shortstop
Courtney Case (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon) led off with a walk, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and then scored on a two-out single to center by junior center fielder
Sabrina Riley (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park).
Le Moyne added two runs on three hits in the second inning. Junior catcher
Emily Bagley (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster) led off with a single to center and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. Case followed with a triple to right center to drive in Bagley. Senior left fielder
Allison Reynolds (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield) then singled to right field to knock in Case.
American International got the two runs back in the top of the third on three hits. Right fielder Jenna Costa singled to right field with one out and moved to second on a walk by center fielder Ashley Hughes. After an out, third baseman Jorrdin Miller singled to center to plate Costa. Hughes then scored on a single to right center by catcher Jamie Mainez.
The Dolphins responded with three runs on three hits in the bottom of the third. Senior right fielder
Kirsten Trotta (Wilmington, Del./Alexis I. Dupont) walked on four pitches with one out and took second on a single to right field by sophomore pitcher
Alexis Eastman (Endicott, N.Y./Union-Endicott). After an out, Andrews blasted a three-run home run to left center.
Eastman earned her team-best eighth win of the season after striking out eight batters over seven innings, while yielding two runs on six hits. Case and Trotta each recorded two of Le Moyne's nine hits in the game. Alyssa Camargo took the loss for the Yellow Jackets after allowing six runs on eight hits over two and two-thirds innings.
In the nightcap, the Dolphins struck first with one run on two hits in the second inning. Sophomore first baseman
Rachelle Walters (North Syracuse, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) doubled to center field with two outs and came around to score on a single to center by sophomore catcher
Nicole Cerrone (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool).
American International evened the score at one apiece in the sixth inning on one hit and one Le Moyne error. Costa drew a walk to open the frame and then took second on a sacrifice bunt. Mainez then singled to center to advance Costa to third, while Costa was able to score on a throwing error by the catcher.
The Yellow Jackets plated the winning run in the top of the seventh inning as first baseman Alexa DiLeo drilled a lead-off home run to left center.
Senior righty
Toni Secreti (Baldwinsville, N.Y./Westhill/Herkimer C.C.) struck out four in the loss, while yielding two runs (one earned) on six hits. Jill Bedard earned the win in the circle for the Yellow Jackets after striking out two over seven innings, while giving up one run on seven hits.
Le Moyne (15-8, 3-2 NE-10, 2-1 SW) returns to action on Friday for a doubleheader at Pace University at 3:00 p.m.
