GEREMIA BREAKS PROGRAM’S SINGLE-GAME POINTS RECORD AS SECOND-RANKED WOMEN’S LACROSSE DEFEATS SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT STATE, 20-10

New Haven, Conn. – Senior attacker Erica Geremia (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee/SUNY Cortland) tallied a program-record 14 points to lead the second-ranked Le Moyne College women's lacrosse team to a 20-10 victory over Southern Connecticut State University on Saturday afternoon at Jess Dow Field.

With the victory, the Dolphins clinch a home game in the Northeast-10 Conference Championship quarterfinals on Wednesday, May 4 at 2:00 p.m.

In addition to Geremia's program-record single-game point total, which is the highest in Division II this season, she became the sixth Dolphin to eclipse the 200-point plateau with her ninth point of the game. Also, her fifth assist of the contest moved her into second place on the program's all-time assists chart with her 93rd as a Dolphin. Additionally, her seventh point of the contest gave her 458 career points between her time at Cortland (260) and Le Moyne, which moved her past Buffalo State's Karen Shaddock (2009-12) and into fourth place on the NCAA's all-time points list across all divisions.

To go along with Geremia's scoring output, freshman attacker Bryanna Fazio (Watertown, N.Y./General Brown) registered the most points in a game by a freshman in the program's history with eight points on four goals and a career-best four assists.

Geremia, who was held scoreless for the first time in her 81-game career on Tuesday at Adelphi, had a hand in each of Le Moyne's first six goals of the game. After Lauren Anderson got the Owls on the scoreboard first 4:52 into the game off a pass from Carolynn Keal, Geremia tied the score with 23:55 remaining. Anderson gave the lead back to the Owls with 22:46 by converting a free-position shot, but that would be Southern Connecticut's final lead of the game. Senior attacker Maggie Monnat (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker), who reached the 200-point mark at Adelphi on Tuesday, registered her 27th goal of the year with 21:38 left off a pass from Geremia to tie the score at two. Just 70 seconds later, Geremia picked up her 38th goal of the year after taking a pass from Fazio. The two hooked up again 65 seconds later to put the Dolphins in front 4-2.

Nicole Healey pulled the Owls within one with a free-position goal with 18:19 left, but the Dolphins countered with four straight goals and seven of the last eight goals of the half. Geremia recorded her fifth and sixth points of the half by feeding Monnat and Fazio for goals at the 14:21 and 11:08 marks, respectively. Sophomore midfielder Abbie McEntee (Cazenovia, N.Y./Cazenovia) followed with her 13th goal of the campaign with 9:50 to go, while senior attacker Claire Monnat (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) capped the 4-0 run with an extra-player goal with 7:58 remaining off a pass from Geremia.

After Healey recorded her second goal of the game with 5:15 left off a pass from Keal, Fazio tallied her second goal of the afternoon with 3:53 to go. Freshman midfielder Kasi Cabrey (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) then netted her fifth goal of the season 16 seconds later off a pass from Geremia. Sophomore midfielder Emily Martin (Delmar, N.Y./Albany Academy) closed out the scoring in the first half by converting a free-position shot with 1:09 to go.

The teams went back and forth over the opening seven minutes of the second half. Geremia and McEntee wrapped goals around Anderson's third goal of the day before Samantha Cozzolino netted consecutive goals at the 23:56 and 23:04 marks.

Le Moyne followed three straight goals to take its first nine-goal lead of the game. Sophomore midfielder Jacqueline Pardee (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) started the spurt with 21:34 left off a pass from Geremia, who then finished off a feed from Fazio with 19:16 to go. Maggie Monnat then scored with 18:15 left after collecting a pass from freshman midfielder Monica Sanna (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford).

The teams then alternated goals over a stretch of 10 minutes. Healey started the span before Fazio and Jennifer McCarthy each scored two goals, with Fazio's goals coming off passes from Geremia and Maggie Monnat. With the second of the goals, her 40th of the season, Fazio ties Amanda Daniels '03 for the most goals in a season by a Dolphin freshman.

Geremia broke the single-game points record of 12, which she equaled 10 days ago at Saint Michael's, by feeding junior midfielder Molly McGuane (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus) for her eighth goal of the year with 1:20 to play. Geremia then found Maggie Monnat for her career high-tying 30th goal of the year with 48 seconds remaining.

Senior goalkeeper Ryan Cortese (Brewerton, N.Y./Paul V. Moore) recorded three saves in the first half to earn her 12th victory of the season between the pipes. Chelsea Callahan turned away 12 shots in the loss for the Owls.

Le Moyne (13-1, 10-1 NE-10) closes out its home schedule on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. against Pace University.
