BASEBALL EVENS SERIES WITH SAINT ROSE WITH 10-3 VICTORY

Syracuse, N.Y. – Senior first baseman Pat Wright (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) scored four runs to lead the Le Moyne College baseball team to a 10-3 victory over The College of Saint Rose on Friday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference Southwest Division action at Dick Rockwell Field.

Le Moyne opened the scoring with one run on two hits in the second inning. Wright led off with a single to left center, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and then came around to score on a two-out single to center by senior shortstop Dylan Swetman (Honeoye Falls, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima).

The Dolphins blew the game open in the third with seven runs on three hits and two Saint Rose errors. Junior center fielder Donato DiNorcia (Naples, Fla./Seacrest Country Day) opened the frame with a single to first base and then took second on a groundout. After junior third baseman Gabe Levanti (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker/Northeastern) reached on a fielding error by the shortstop, DiNorcia stole home on a pickoff attempt at first base. Freshman designated hitter Nick Place (Towanda, Pa./Towanda) followed with a double to left center to drive in Levanti from second. After Wright reached on another throwing error by the shortstop and a strikeout, sophomore left fielder JT Pittman (Ashland, Mass./Ashland/Bridgton Academy) singled to the shortstop to load the bases. Swetman and freshman right fielder David DiNorcia (Naples, Fla./Seacrest Country Day) then drew back-to-back walks to force in Place and Wright and cause a Saint Rose pitching change. The new pitcher walked Donato DiNorcia, senior second baseman Brett Charbonneau (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) and Levanti consecutively to force in Pittman, Swetman and David DiNorcia and then departed the game.

Le Moyne tacked on one run on one hit in the fourth inning. Wright drew a walk to start the inning and stole second with one out, while taking third on a throwing error by the catcher. Pittman then doubled to center to drive in Wright.

Saint Rose got on the scoreboard in the fifth inning with one run on two hits. Left fielder Nick Venier led off with a single to left center and advanced to third on a double to right center by shortstop Tyler Ungerland. Third baseman Alex Chandler then lifted a sacrifice fly to center field to drive in Venier.

Wright completed Le Moyne's scoring in the bottom of the eighth by smacking his fifth home run of the season to left field with two outs.

The Golden Knights trimmed their final deficit to seven in the ninth with two runs on two hits. After designated hitter Alec Caprarella singled to second base with one out, right fielder Sean Maki launched a home run to center field.

Junior righty Damian Powers (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville North) earned his fourth win of the season after striking out 13 batters over six innings of work, while scattering seven hits and yielding just one run. Freshman righty Matt Acomb (Livonia, N.Y./Livonia) picked up his first career save after tossing the final three innings and striking out two. Donato DiNorcia, Wright and Pittman each had two of Le Moyne's 10 hits in the game. Jesse Curtin took the loss for the Golden Knights after giving up eight runs (two earned) on six hits over two and two-thirds innings.

Le Moyne (22-14, 10-6 NE-10, 5-6 SW) is back in action on Saturday with a doubleheader against the University of New Haven at 1:00 p.m.
