SOFTBALL EDGED BY SOUTHERN NEW HAMPSHIRE, 6-5, IN NORTHEAST-10 CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP SEMIFINALS

Briarcliff Manor, N.Y. – Third baseman Katie Caruso doubled in the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning to give Southern New Hampshire University a 6-5 win over the Le Moyne College softball team on Saturday afternoon in the semifinals of the Northeast-10 Conference Championship at Pace University's Pace Field.

The Dolphins opened the game's scoring in the second inning as junior center fielder Sabrina Riley (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) led off with a home run to right field.

Le Moyne added another run on two hits in the third inning. Senior first baseman Cara Cawley (Endwell, N.Y./Maine-Endwell) led off with single to third base and then moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. After junior shortstop Courtney Case (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon) walked on four pitches, senior right fielder Kirsten Trotta (Wilmington, Del./Alexis I. Dupont) singled to third base to load the bases. Following a groundout, Riley was hit by a pitch to force in Case from third.

Southern New Hampshire used three hits in the bottom of the third to take the lead with three runs. After center fielder Mo Hannan singled up the middle with two outs, second Lindsey Bolduc homered to left field to knot the score at two apiece. Right fielder Erin Garczynski followed with a solo home run to left center to give the Penmen the lead.

Le Moyne regained the lead in the top of the fifth with two runs on two hits. Senior left fielder Allison Reynolds (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield) led off with a single to left center and then stole second. After another walk by Case and a pair of outs, Riley walked to load the bases. Sophomore second baseman Tess Andrews (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) then singled up the middle to drive in Reynolds and Case.

The Penmen tied the score in the bottom of the fifth with one run on two hits. Shortstop Brittany Perdigao opened the frame with a single to shortstop and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. After a fly out, Perdigao scored from third on a single up the middle by Garczynski.

Southern New Hampshire took the lead in the sixth with one run on two hits. Designated player Devin Rabidou doubled to right center to open the inning and then took third on a groundout. Following a groundout, Perdigao singled to second to knock in Rabidou.

Le Moyne tied the score for the final time in the top of the seventh as Case led off with her first home run of the season to left center.

The Penmen walked off with the win with a run on one hit in the bottom of the seventh. Garczynski worked a walk with one out and was replaced at first by pinch-runner Dianna Jamgochian. Following a wild pitch to move Jamgochian to second, Caruso doubled to left center to drive in Jamgochian with the winning run.

Sophomore pitcher Alexis Eastman (Endicott, N.Y./Union-Endicott) had her nine-game win streak snapped after yielding six runs on 10 hits over six and one-third innings. The appearance was Eastman's 34th of the season, which is the fourth-most in a season in the program's history (with the top three all by pitching coach Sarah Harrison '14). With three runs scored in the game, Case moves into fourth place on the program's single-season runs scored list with 44 with the top three totals all coming in the 2008 season. Case's second walk of the game was her 21st of the season, which places her in a four-way tie for the most in a season in the program's history.

Sarah Lavallee earned her 16th victory of the season after striking out three over seven innings, while allowing five runs on eight hits.

Le Moyne (30-15) now awaits word on a berth into the NCAA Championships. The 64-team field (eight from each of the eight regions) will be announced on NCAA.com on Monday at 10:00 a.m. The Dolphins were ranked fifth in last week's East Region rankings.
