Natalie Casson (Kingman, Ariz./Kingman) registered a double-double, including the 1000th kill of her career, to lead the Le Moyne College volleyball team to a 3-2 win over American International College on Tuesday night in Northeast-10 Conference action at Fayetteville-Manlius High School.
The Dolphins took a 2-0 lead in the match by winning each of the first two sets. They scored eight of the first nine points and four of the last five points of the first set en route to a 25-18 win. Mikayla Porr (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa), for a 25-15 win. The Yellow Jackets stayed alive in the match with a 26-24 victory in the third set. American International evened the match at two apiece with a 25-20 win in the fourth set. The Dolphins tallied five of the first six points of the decisive fifth set as they captured the match with a 15-9 win.
Casson's third double-double of the season consisted of a team-best 17 kills and 13 digs, while she added three service aces. With a kill to pull the Dolphins within 6-2 in the third set, her eighth kill of the match, Casson became the seventh player in the program's history to record 1000 career kills. Andrea Buchanan (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg) tallied 14 kills, nine digs and a pair of blocks, while sophomore middle blocker
Anna Hafoka (Hurst, Texas/L.D. Bell) hit .458 en route to 14 kills, while adding three digs and two blocks. Junior setter
Kendall Corcoran (Fort Salonga, N.Y./Kings Park) directed the offense with 52 assists, while posting eight digs and a pair of kills. Porr led the Dolphins on the defensive end with 23 digs and registered seven service aces.
For the Yellow Jackets, Diva Rivas led the way with a match-best 21 kills. Jana Potic, Annie Boele and Dolores Kopren each registered double-doubles in the loss. Potic recorded 16 kills and 10 digs, Boele posted 14 kills and 11 digs and Kopren turned in 44 assists and 12 digs. Mercy Rivera led the Yellow Jackets defensively with 21 digs, while adding nine assists.
Le Moyne (11-3, 3-0 NE-10), which has won its first three NE-10 matches for the first time in its 21 seasons in the conference, returns to the court on Tuesday at Assumption College at 5:00 p.m.
