WOMEN'S BASKETBALL FALLS AT REGION-LEADING ADELPHI, 66-60

Garden City, N.Y. – Sierra Clark recorded a double-double to lead Adelphi University to a 66-60 win over the Le Moyne College women's basketball team in Northeast-10 Conference play at the Center for Recreation and Sport.

Le Moyne (13-11, 9-9 NE10), which clinched the third seed in the upcoming Northeast-10 Conference Championships with Wednesday losses by Saint Rose and Southern Connecticut State, is back in action on Saturday against Southern Connecticut State at 12:00 p.m. Prior to the contest, senior guard Ailayia Demand (Watervliet, N.Y./Watervliet) will be honored by the Dolphin Athletic Association for her contributions to the program.

Junior forward Joanna Dobrovosky (Skaneateles, N.Y./Skaneateles) led the Dolphins in the setback with 17 points and nine rebounds, with 11 of her points coming in the second half. Junior guard Ellie Leszyk (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) tallied 13 points and a career-best nine rebounds, including eight in the second half. Classmate Nicole Riddick (Albany, N.Y./Colonie/UMass Lowell) was the third Dolphin in double digits with 12 points.

Clark, whose double-double was her second of the year against the Dolphins, registered 25 points and 14 rebounds, with 14 of her points and eight of her rebounds coming in the first half. Simone Hobdy tallied 17 points and pulled down six rebounds. Calli Balfour posted 14 points, nine rebounds, three assists and a pair of steals in improving to 7-2 in her career against the Dolphins.

After Balfour opened the game's scoring with a jumper 32 seconds into the contest, the Dolphins rattled off the next nine points. Leszyk made a three-pointer, Dobrovosky and Riddick converted lay-ups and then freshman guard Liz Millea (Cooperstown, N.Y./Cooperstown) finished off a pass from Riddick for a 9-2 lead.

Clark followed with a jumper, but Dobrovosky answered with a jumper and then Riddick made a lay-up for a game-high nine-point lead. The teams then traded baskets as the Dolphins ended the quarter with a 17-8 lead.

Adelphi opened the second quarter with the first 12 points to take the lead, which it would not relinquish. Hobdy scored five of the points, Julia Gnieser hit a go-ahead three-pointer and Balfour and Clark each scored two points.

After Millea tied the score at 22 with a three-pointer with 3:51 left in the half, Clark scored four straight points to take the lead for good. Following two points from each team in the final 65 seconds of the quarter, the Panthers took a 28-24 lead into the intermission.

The Dolphins pulled within two on a pair of occasions in the first 80 seconds of the third quarter, but the Panthers responded with eight straight points to open up a double-digit lead. Clark scored five of the points, while Hobdy tallied the other three.

Le Moyne, Riddick specifically, scored the next four points to get back within six points for the first of two times in the final 4:31 of the third quarter, but Balfour made a jumper with five seconds left to give Adelphi a 45-37 lead after 30 minutes of play.

Leszyk and Demand opened the fourth quarter with back-to-back three-pointers to get the Dolphins within 45-43 with 8:57 remaining.

Adelphi responded with an 8-1 run over 3:03. Hobdy scored the first two points, Balfour scored four and then Clark knocked down a jump shot with 5:38 left.

The Dolphins cut their deficit to six twice over the next two minutes, but the Panthers scored four straight points to regain a 10-point lead.

Le Moyne made one last comeback attempt with seven of the next eight points. Leszyk drained a three-pointer and then freshman guard McKayla Roberts (North Syracuse, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) made consecutive lay-ups.

Clark made a lay-up and Hobdy made two free throws around a Riddick jumper to deliver the final margin.
