SOFTBALL SWEEPS MOLLOY AND CLARION ON SECOND DAY OF SNOWBIRD FREEZE OUT TOURNAMENT

Myrtle Beach, S.C. – Junior righty Alexis Eastman (Endicott, N.Y./Union-Endicott) earned a win and a save to lead the Le Moyne College softball team to a pair of wins on Saturday at the Snowbird Freeze Out Tournament at the Ned Donkle Complex. The Dolphins defeated Molloy College, 2-0, and then down Clarion University, 5-2.

The Dolphins scored the only run they would need against Molloy in the third inning on two hits. Sophomore right fielder Madison DeRita (Higganum, Conn./Mercy) drew a walk to open the frame and moved to second on a two-out single up the middle by freshman catcher Ally Nicolosi (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn). Senior center fielder Sabrina Riley (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) then doubled to right center to drive in DeRita.

Senior third baseman Kelly Mascari (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill/Buffalo) added an insurance run in the fourth with a leadoff home run.

Freshman Peyton Bellrose (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) earned her first collegiate victory after striking out six over five scoreless innings, while allowing just one hit. Eastman picked up her first save of the campaign after tossing the final two innings. Bellrose and Riley each finished the game with two hits. Chelsea Hawks took the loss for the Lions after yielding the two runs, while striking out six.

The Dolphins got on the scoreboard first against Clarion with a run on two hits in the first inning. Freshman second baseman Jillian McManus (Kingston, N.Y./Kingston) singled with one out, moved to second on a passed ball, took third on a ground out and then scored on a single by Mascari.

Le Moyne added a pair of runs on one hit and one Clarion error in the third inning. Senior shortstop Courtney Case (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon) led off with a single and then stole second. After an out and Riley getting hit by a pitch, Mascari reached on a fielder's choice to load the bases. Two batters later, Case scored on a passed ball. Following a walk to load the bases again, junior first baseman Rachelle Walters (North Syracuse, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) was hit by a pitch to force in Riley.

The Dolphins pushed their lead to 4-0 with a run in the fourth inning. Case drew a walk with one out, advanced to third on two passed balls and then scored on a single to left field by Mascari.

Le Moyne finished off its scoring for the day with a run without a hit in the sixth inning. DeRita reached on an error by the shortstop to open the frame. After a walk by Case and a ground out, DeRita scored as Riley grounded out to second.

Clarion got on the scoreboard in the seventh with two runs on one hit and one Le Moyne error. Left fielder Haley Pszyk reached second on an error by the first baseman to start the inning. Second baseman Casey Wilcox then singled to right center to knock in Pszyk. Three batters later, Wilcox scored from third on a ground out by designated player Autumn Babcock.

Eastman went the distance in the circle, striking out eight, while allowing two unearned runs on three hits. Mascari recorded two of Le Moyne's four hits in the contest. Macy Rubin suffered the loss after giving up four runs (one earned) on four hits over four innings.

Le Moyne (3-1), which defeated Molloy, 5-3, last year on the second day of the Snowbird Freeze Out Tournament, concludes its opening weekend on Sunday against Concord University at 10:00 a.m. and Lock Haven University at 12:00 p.m.
