SOFTBALL SWEEPS ASSUMPTION, 7-2, AND BENTLEY, 7-0

Minneola, Fla. – Sophomore left fielder Lauren Zazzaro (Southington, Conn./Southington) had three hits in the first game and junior righty Alexis Eastman (Endicott, N.Y./Union-Endicott) tossed a one-hitter in the second game as the Le Moyne College softball team swept a pair of non-conference games against Northeast-10 Conference foes on Friday afternoon. The Dolphins recorded a 7-2 win against Assumption College and then defeated Bentley University, 7-0.

Assumption opened the game's scoring with two runs on three hits in the first inning. Center fielder Ashley Clark led off with a triple and scored on a double by left fielder Caitlin Mirabell. After a groundout, third baseman Nicole Duplease singled to knock in Mirabell.

The Dolphins cut their deficit in half in the fourth inning on a pair of hits. Senior center fielder Sabrina Riley (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) singled with one out, moved to second on a walk and then scored on a two-out single by sophomore right fielder Madison DeRita (Higganum, Conn./Mercy).

Le Moyne took advantage of three Assumption in the fifth inning to score five times to take the lead. Senior catcher Emily Bagley (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster) was walked to start the inning, took second on a sacrifice bunt and moved to third as senior shortstop Courtney Case (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon) reached on an error by the shortstop. Freshman Ally Nicolosi (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn) then drove in Bagley as she reached on an error by the shortstop. Following a walk by Riley to load the bases, Mascari reached on an error by the center fielder to knock in Case. After an out at home, DeRita drew a walk to force home Riley. Zazzaro then singled to plate freshman pinch-runner Kalie Schumaker (Constantia, N.Y./Central Square) and freshman pitcher Peyton Bellrose (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool).

The Dolphins added an insurance run in the sixth. Freshman second baseman Jillian McManus (Kingston, N.Y./Kingston) led off with a double, advanced to second on a single by Case and then scored on a sacrifice fly by Riley.

Bellrose tallied her fourth win of the year after striking out seven, while yielding two runs and six hits. Courtney Oliva took the loss for the Greyhounds after giving up seven runs (two earned) and seven hits over seven innings.

The Dolphins scored the only run they would need against Bentley on the fourth pitch of the first inning as Case sent it over the fence in center field.

In the second, freshman first baseman Taylor Artley (York Haven, Pa./Red Land) singled with two outs and came around to score on a double by McManus. Case then reached on an error by the left fielder, which allowed McManus to score.

The Dolphins pushed their lead to four in the third inning on two hits. Bellrose singled up the middle with two outs, took second on a walk by DeRita and came around to score on a single through the right side by Zazzaro.

In the fourth, McManus reached third on an error by the right field to start the inning and then scored on a sac fly by Case.

Le Moyne finished off the game's scoring in the fifth with two runs. Senior designated player Kelly Mascari (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill/Buffalo) reached on an error by the first baseman to begin the frame and was replaced at first by senior pinch-runner Marisa DuVal (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius). Bellrose then launched her second home run of the season to right field.

Eastman retired 20 batters before allowing Bentley's only hit of the game, which came after Jordan Ballantyne fouled off four straight pitches. Eastman finished the game with one strikeout in earning her ninth win of the season. Hannah King took the loss for the Falcons after giving up three runs (two earned) over two innings pitched.

Le Moyne (13-5) closes out its trip to The Spring Games on Saturday with games against LIU Post at 1:00 p.m. and Truman State University at 3:30 p.m.
