Rindge, N.H. – Graduate student righty
Sean Pisik (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee/Ursinus) struck out nine to lead the 24th-ranked Le Moyne College baseball team to a 5-2 win over Franklin Pierce University in the second game of a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader on Sunday at Pappas Field. The Ravens recorded a 2-1 victory in the opener.
Following three scoreless innings, Le Moyne scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth on two hits and one error. With two outs, sophomore designated hitter/catcher
Camillo Spinoso (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy/George Washington) singled to left field and then moved to second on a walk by junior left fielder
JT Pittman (Ashland, Mass./Ashland/Bridgton Academy). Senior catcher/third baseman
Gabe Levanti (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker/Northeastern) then singled up the middle to drive in Spinoso, while Pittman and Levanti were able to race around to score as the center fielder overran the ball and it got all the way to the fence.
Franklin Pierce answered back with two runs on four hits in the top of the fifth. Catcher Stephen Octave led off with a single to third base and then advanced to second on a single by left fielder Tim Going to the hole on the left side. Following a pair of strikeouts, shortstop Lucas Luopa singled up the middle to knock in Octave. Third baseman John Friday then singled to center to plate Going.
The Dolphins got the runs back in the bottom of the fifth to regain their three-run lead. After junior center fielder
Timothy Corapi (Liverpool, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) walked on five pitches with two outs, junior first baseman
Brian Cox (North Kingstown, R.I./North Kingstown) launched a 1-0 pitch an estimated 340 feet over the fence in right field to give the Dolphins a 5-2 lead.
Pisik retired 11 of the last 13 batters he faced over the final four innings to complete the victory. He improved to a conference-best 5-0 on the year after scattering seven hits and striking out nine batters for the third time this year. Tanner Bird took the loss for the Ravens after allowing five runs (three earned) and three hits over five innings.
In the opening game, Le Moyne scored first with a run in the fifth inning on three hits. Levanti singled up the middle with one out and took second on a single to the shortstop by sophomore right fielder
David DiNorcia (Naples, Fla./Seacrest Country Day). Sophomore shortstop
Josiah Gray (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) then doubled down the left field line to drive in Levanti.
Franklin Pierce took the lead with two runs on three hits and an error in the seventh. Designated hitter Chris LaVorgna led off with a single to left center and took second on a wild pitch. After a strikeout, right fielder Adam Chase reached on a throwing error by the second baseman to put runners at the corners. Octave then singled to center to knock in LaVorgna. Going followed with a single through the left side to plate Chase.
The Dolphins advanced a runner to second base in the seventh and ninth, but could not plate the tying run.
Senior righty
Damian Powers (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville South) was the tough-luck loser after yielding two runs (one earned) and eight hits over eight innings, while striking out nine. Levanti, Gray and redshirt sophomore third baseman/second baseman
Ben Walsh (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill) each had two of Le Moyne's eight hits in the game. Cody McPartland earned his fourth win of the season after striking out eight over seven and one-third innings, while allowing one run and eight hits. John Amendola earned the save by tossing the final one and two-thirds innings.
Le Moyne (13-8, 1-1 NE10) is scheduled to open Northeast-10 Conference Southwest Division play on Wednesday at The College of Saint Rose at 3:30 p.m.
