DeWitt, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College men's tennis team registered a 6-3 win over Post University, the seventh-ranked team in the East Region, on Monday at Gold's Gym.
The Dolphins took a 2-1 lead over the Eagles through the doubles competition. Freshman
Philip Blythe (Edinburgh, Scotland/Merchiston) and junior
Hallam Doney (Andover, Hampshire/Peter Symonds) were victorious at the top position over Nikola Crvelin and Ludvig Henrikson, 8-5. Senior
James Gayvert (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) and sophomore
Tyler Underwood (Minoa, N.Y./East Syracuse-Minoa) turned in an 8-1 victory at the third spot against Peter Roessel and Joe Alvord. Ivan Rajevac and Samuel Urban tallied Post's first point by edging freshman
Josh Sagaille (Schenectady, N.Y./Justine Henin Academy (Belgium)) and junior
Jason Barton (Lima, Ohio/Shawnee), 8-6, at the second position.
Le Moyne registered wins in four of the six singles matches. Gayvert extended his win streak to five with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Rajevac at the second position. Doney remained unbeaten on the year with a 6-2, 3-6, 6-0 victory at the third spot against Henrikson. Sagaille was a 6-2, 3-6, 10-4 winner at the fourth position over Roessel. Senior
Steven Procopio (Jamesville, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) recorded his fourth consecutive win, 6-4, 2-6, 6-3, at the sixth spot over Alvord. Crvelin handed Blythe his first collegiate loss, 6-4, 7-6 (10-8), at the first position. With the match already decided, Urban and Barton played a pro set at fifth singles with Urban coming out victorious, 8-5.
Le Moyne (5-1), which played its first of five straight regionally-ranked teams, starts a stretch of 10 straight road matches on Saturday at #1 regionally-ranked New York Tech at 8:00 p.m. at Sportime Bethpage.
