SOFTBALL WINS THIRD STRAIGHT, 5-1, OVER SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT STATE

New Haven, Conn. – Sophomore left fielder Lauren Zazzaro (Southington, Conn./Southington) blasted a go-ahead home run in the third inning to lead the Le Moyne College softball team to a 5-1 win over Southern Connecticut State University in the Northeast-10 Conference Southwest Division action on Saturday afternoon at Pelz Field.

The Owls started the game's scoring as shortstop BryAnna McIntosh hit a home run to lead off the first inning.

The Dolphins took the lead in the third inning on two hits. After freshman first baseman Taylor Artley (York Haven, Pa./Red Land) singled, Zazzaro hit her third home run of the season.

Le Moyne added two runs in the fourth inning. Following a one-out single by freshman designated player Peyton Bellrose (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool), junior second baseman Tess Andrews (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) drilled her second home run of the year with two outs.

The Dolphins tacked on a run in the seventh inning to finish the game's scoring. With two outs, senior shortstop Courtney Case (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon) reached on a fielding error by the first baseman and then stole second base, her 50th career stolen base. Following a walk by freshman catcher Ally Nicolosi (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn), senior center fielder Sabrina Riley (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) singled to right field to knock in senior Morgan Hope (Binghamton, N.Y./Chenango Valley), who pinch-ran for Case.

Junior Alexis Eastman (Endicott, N.Y./Union-Endicott) earned her 14th win of the season after striking out seven, while yielding just one run and two hits. Yesenia Evaristo took the loss for the Owls after giving up five runs (four earned) and seven hits, while striking out four.

Le Moyne (21-16, 5-9 NE10, 4-8 SW), which has won three straight games, continues its series with the Owls on Sunday with a doubleheader beginning at 12:00 p.m.
