TOP-RANKED WOMEN’S LACROSSE EDGED BY THIRD-RANKED ADELPHI, 7-5, IN NE10 CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

Syracuse, N.Y. – Kole Pollock scored three goals to lead third-ranked and second-seeded Adelphi University to a 7-5 win over the Le Moyne College women's lacrosse team in the Northeast-10 Conference Championship game on Sunday afternoon at Ted Grant Field.

The Dolphins, who had their program-best 18-game win streak snapped, now await their seeding in the NCAA Championships. The 12-team field will be announced on NCAA.com tonight at 8:00 p.m.

The Dolphins and Panthers met in the NE10 title game for the third straight year and for the sixth time in the seven years the Dolphins have been members of the conference. Adelphi has won five of the meetings (2011, '12, '15, '16 and '17), while the Dolphins won in 2013. Since joining the conference in 2010, Adelphi has won seven of the eight titles, including four in a row.

Le Moyne (18-1) got on the scoreboard first 3:12 into the game as senior midfielder Molly McGuane (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus) tallied her 20th goal of the season.

The lead would be short-lived as Adelphi knotted the score at one apiece 92 seconds later as Pollock recorded her 45th goal of the season. She followed with a free-position goal with 20:06 left in the first half for a 2-1 lead. Casey Zalewski extended the lead to 3-1 with 19:02 remaining by converting a free-position shot in an extra-player situation for her 36th goal of the campaign.

The Dolphins trimmed their deficit back to one with 14:38 left as senior midfielder Vicki Graveline (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee) netted her 46th goal of the season off a free-position shot.

Adelphi (18-1) answered with three goals over the final 5:24 to take a 6-2 lead into the intermission. Pollock started the run at the 5:24 mark with a free-position goal. Alison Johnson, the Northeast-10 Rookie of the Year, avoided the crease to pick up her 39th goal of season with 2:34 remaining. After a pair of wide shots by the Dolphins, the second of which was backed up by Adelphi, Jacqueline Jahelka, the NE10 Player of the Year the last two seasons, found the back of the net for the 61st time this season after taking a crossing pass from Johnson with 45 seconds to go.

The Dolphins started their comeback attempt 1:46 into the second half as freshman midfielder Nicole Delany (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) registered her 33rd goal of the year. Following 16:20 of scoreless action, sophomore defender Monica Sanna (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford) got the Dolphins within two at the 11:54 mark by scoring her ninth goal of the year off a free-position shot. Sophomore attacker Bryanna Fazio (Watertown, N.Y./General Brown) cut the deficit to one 32 seconds later off another free-position shot.

The Dolphins had a chance to tie the score with 8:53 remaining, but a free-position shot went wide right. Fazio then had a shot hit off the post with 5:36 to play. Out of a timeout with 2:50 left after Adelphi turned the ball over, the Dolphins successfully cleared the ball, but were called for an illegal screen before they could get into their offensive set.

Jahelka completed the game's scoring with 39 seconds left after taking a pass from Kate Beier. The goal snapped a scoring drought of 30:06 by the Panthers.

Freshman goalkeeper Hannah George (Johnson City, N.Y./Maine-Endwell) registered 10 saves, including six in the first half, in suffering her first career loss between the pipes. Hailey Peterson made five saves, including four in the first half, in the victory for the Panthers.
