BASEBALL FALLS TO NEW HAVEN, 3-0, IN FIRST ROUND OF NE10 CHAMPIONSHIPS

West Haven, Conn. – David Palmer struck out 10 batters and right fielder Nick Perrelli drove in a run and scored a run to lead the second-seeded University of New Haven to a 3-0 win over the third-seeded Le Moyne College baseball team in the first round of the Northeast-10 Conference Championships on Tuesday afternoon at Frank Vieira Field.

The Dolphins drop to 28-16 on the season and now await word on a possible bid to the NCAA Championships. The seven team regional field will be announced on Sunday at 10:00 p.m. on NCAA.com.

After five scoreless innings to start the game, New Haven scored the only runs it would need in the bottom of the sixth with two runs on two hits. Left fielder Robert Petrillo doubled to right center with one out and came around to score on a double down the right field line by Perrelli. After moving to third on a wild pitch, Perrelli scored on a sacrifice fly to left by third baseman Jack Zagaja.

The Chargers tacked on a run in the seventh on two hits. Second baseman James Myers singled up the middle with one out and stole second with two outs. Center fielder Matt Chamberlain then doubled to left center to plate Myers with the game's third run.

Senior righty Damian Powers (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville South) struck out 10 over seven innings, but took the loss after yielding three runs and five hits. Redshirt senior right fielder Mark Martin (Sauquoit, N.Y./Sauquoit Valley/Bryant) recorded three of Le Moyne's six hits, including both of the team's doubles. Palmer improved to 7-0 on the season after striking out 10 over seven scoreless innings, while allowing just six hits and not walking a batter. Kellen Croce earned his sixth save after striking out three of the five batters he faced in the ninth inning.
