Lynbrook, N.Y. – Nicole Kielan won at second singles to give Adelphi University a 4-3 win over the Le Moyne College women's tennis team in Northeast-10 Conference action on Saturday evening at the SPORTIME tennis courts.
The Panthers took a 1-0 lead by winning the two matches competed in the doubles competition.
At the second spot, Nicole Stay and Karen Serina registered a 6-4 win over sophomores
Marta Nunez (Rye, N.Y./Antonio Lopez (Spain)) and
Caroline St. Antoine (Longueuil, Québec/Cégep Édouard-Montpetit). Samantha Perri and Kielan were also 6-4 winners at the first position over senior
Tiffany Hamdan (Johnson City, N.Y./Johnson City/Roberts Wesleyan) and freshman
Birdem Oz (Istanbul, Turkey/TED Ankara College Foundation HS). Sophomore
Camila Humala (Lima, Peru/Antonio Raimondi) and freshman
Brooke Fernandez (Shirley, N.Y./William Floyd) won by default at the third spot due to Adelphi being unable to fill the spot.
The teams split the singles competition, which allowed the Panthers to claim the match. Humala won by default at the sixth position to earn Le Moyne's first point of the day. Perri regained the lead for the Panthers with a 6-2, 6-0 victory at the first spot over Hamdan. Stay extended the lead to 3-1 by topping Nunez at the third position, 6-1, 6-3. The loss marked Nunez's first in dual match play this season and just the third of her 31-match career. Freshman
Belen Wibmer (Maldonado, Uruguay/St. Joseph Mary College) got the Dolphins within 3-2 by beating Ashley Mannetta at the fifth spot, 6-2, 6-1. St. Antoine evened the match at three wins apiece with a 6-2, 7-5 victory at the fourth position over Serina. Kielan edged Oz at the second spot, 7-6 (7-5), 6-4, to close out the match.
Le Moyne (8-4, 7-3 NE10) takes on Saint Thomas Aquinas College in non-conference action on Sunday at 12:00 p.m.
