Utica, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College men's and women's indoor track and field teams opened their seasons on Saturday at the Utica College Pioneer Winter Classic at the Hutton Sports & Recreation Center.
The women's team placed fifth in the team competition with 63 points. Utica took first with 136 points, RPI was 3.5 points back in second and Rochester claimed third another 3.5 points back.
Senior
Bethia Nivens (Latham, N.Y./Shaker) won the 600-meter run by over three seconds with a program-record time of 1:40.96.
Senior
Brittney Mack (Poestenkill, N.Y./Averill Park) won the 3,000-meter run by over 10 and one-half seconds with a program-record time of 10:47.78.
Junior
Mya Walters (Cazenovia, N.Y./Cazenovia) turned in a third-place finish in the 5,000-meter run in 20:11.23.
The Dolphins had a pair of competitors finish in the top five in the one-mile run. Freshman
Samantha Pellegrini (Loudonville, N.Y./Colonie) placed third and scored eight points with a time of 5:40.39, while sophomore
Caroline St. Antoine (Longueuil, Québec/Cégep Édouard-Montpetit) was fifth with a time of 5:41.75.
Sophomore
Haleigh Pascual (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) was fifth in the 3,000-meter run in 11:31.03, while junior
Jill Stagnitta (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) was one spot back in 11:38.89.
Senior
Val Pirro (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) registered a sixth-place finish in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:08.07 to earn four points.
Junior
Jordan Sloan (Central Square, N.Y./Bishop Grimes) placed sixth in the 800-meter run in 2:31.18.

Awnshae Smith (Scranton, Pa./Scranton) won the 4x400-meter relay by over two seconds with a time of 4:14.39.
On the men's side, the Dolphins placed sixth with 41 points. RPI collected 171 points to claim first place. Utica was second with 158 points and St. John Fisher came in third with 85 points.
Freshman
Jacob Schmid (Ontario, N.Y./Wayne) won the 600-meter run with a program-record time of 1:24.10.
Senior
Griffin Klein (Fair Haven, N.Y./Red Creek) was victorious in the 800-meter run with a program-record time of 1:58.73.
Freshman
William Bilow (Chasm Falls, N.Y./Franklin) recorded a fourth-place finish in the high jump with a program-record height of six feet.
Sophomore
Jordan Devereaux (Syracuse, N.Y./Solvay) placed fifth in the 300-meter dash with a program-record time of 37.39 seconds.
In addition to Schmid's victory in the 600-meter run, two other Dolphins scored in the event. Senior
Mahamadou Jagana (Bronx, N.Y./DeWitt Clinton) placed fifth in 1:27.75 and freshman
Kenny Barrett (Lagrangeville, N.Y./Lady of Lourdes) finished seventh in 1:29.36.
The quartet of Barrett, Klein, Schmid and Jagana placed third in the 4x400-meter relay in 3:30.92.
The Dolphins return to the track at Cornell University's Southern Tier Invitational on Saturday, January 5.
