Clermont, Fla. – The Le Moyne College softball team ended it's week at The Spring Games on Sunday morning with a 6-1 loss to Northwood University.
Following two walks and a single, Northwood began the scoring in the second inning when left fielder Lauren Castellon smacked a single into right field with the bases loaded to drive in pinch-runner Jordyn Look. Second baseman Tara Gross then lifted a sacrifice fly to right to knock in shortstop Danielle Bartodziej.
Le Moyne attempted to answer with two singles in the bottom of the inning, but could not push a run across the plate.
In the top of the third inning, the Timberwolves added to their lead with a solo home run to center field by first baseman Abby Joseph. After an error, single and hit by pitch, Castellon came up again with the bases loaded and singled to left, adding 2 RBI to her total.
In the top of the fourth inning, right fielder Sydni Pauli homered to center field to complete the Northwood scoring.
The Dolphins would add their only run of the game in the bottom of the seventh inning following a leadoff double by freshman shortstop
Kailey LaForce (Binghamton, N.Y./Binghamton), who was then replaced at second by sophomore pinch-runner
Kalie Schumaker (Contantia, N.Y./Paul V. Moore). A single advanced Schumaker to third and freshman left fielder
McKenna Mattison (Elmira, N.Y./Horseheads) drove in the run on a ground ball to the shortstop.
Freshman pitcher
Lauren Nichols (Syracuse, N.Y./Solvay) suffered her first loss of the season after going two and two-thirds innings. She posted seven strikeouts and gave up five runs, three of which were earned. Taylor Wright threw a complete game for the Timberwolves, striking out 10 along the way.
