Albany, N.Y. – Freshman
Kelsey White (Middletown, Conn./Middletown) singled home the winning run in the seventh inning as the Le Moyne College softball team rallied for a 3-2 victory over The College of Saint Rose in Northeast-10 Conference Southwest Division action on Tuesday afternoon at Haker Field.
Following four scoreless innings to start the game, during which time Saint Rose had the only two hits, the Golden Knights got into the scoring column in the fifth with two runs on three hits. Third baseman Beth Jones walked to start the frame and was replaced at first by pinch-runner Samantha LaBarbera, who took second on a sacrifice bunt. After a single by left fielder Katie Shevlin, designated player Dana Nicoletti singled to drive in LaBarbera. First baseman Briana Bowen then doubled to knock in Shevlin.
Down to their final three outs, the Dolphins rallied for three runs on three hits (three times their total over the first six innings) and a Saint Rose error in the seventh. Junior right fielder
Lauren Zazzaro (Southington, Conn./Southington) walked and sophomore third baseman/first baseman
Peyton Bellrose (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) singled to open the inning. After an out, junior left fielder
Madison DeRita (Higganum, Conn./Mercy) doubled to drive in Zazzaro, while Bellrose raced home from third on an errant throw home by the shortstop. Following a walk by senior pitcher
Alexis Eastman (Endicott, N.Y./Union-Endicott) and a pitching change, pinch-hitter White singled to plate freshman pinch-runner
Johnna Karas (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) with the go-ahead run.
Eastman earned her NE10-best 14th win of the year after striking out four batters, while yielding two runs and eight hits in her conference-best 14th complete game (in 15 starts) of the campaign. Thalia Santiago suffered the loss after allowing three runs (two earned) and three hits over six and one-third innings, while striking out six.
Le Moyne (21-8, 7-5 NE10, 4-2 SW) opens its home schedule on Wednesday with a doubleheader against American International College at 2:00 p.m. The first game will be a Southwest Division contest, while the second game will be a non-conference matchup.
