MEN’S TENNIS CLOSES OUT REGULAR SEASON WITH 9-0 WIN OVER UNIVERSITY OF THE SCIENCES

DeWitt, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College men's tennis team closed out the regular season by winning its ninth straight match, 9-0, over the University of the Sciences on Saturday evening in non-conference action at Elevate Fitness.

Juniors Xavier Graells (Castellar del Vallès, Spain/IES Castellar/Harford Community College) and Tyler Underwood (Minoa, N.Y./East Syracuse-Minoa) opened the doubles competition by posting an 8-4 win at the third spot over Nathan Nguyen and Evan Halperin to finish the regular season 12-0 in dual matches. Junior Andres Hernandez (Monterrey, Mexico/Laurel Springs/Texas Rio Grande Valley) and senior Jason Barton (Lima, Ohio/Shawnee) won their ninth straight match, 8-3, over Borna Novak and Rakesh Chamala at the second position. Sophomore Philip Blythe (Edinburgh, Scotland/Merchiston) and senior Hallam Doney (Andover, Hampshire/Peter Symonds) earned their 15th win of the year with an 8-2 victory at the first spot over Chandat Phan and Sahas Chandragiri.

In the singles competition, Blythe registered consecutive scores of 6-2 at the first position to defeat Novak. Graells was victorious for the ninth straight match, 6-3, 6-4, over Phan at the third spot to clinch the match for the Dolphins. Hernandez tallied his 10th dual-match win with back-to-back scores of 6-2 against Nguyen at the second position. Barton also earned his 10th dual-match victory, 6-3, 3-6, 10-4, over Chandragiri at the fourth spot. Underwood was a 6-1, 6-2 winner at the sixth position against Bill Bentley for this fourth straight win, while freshman Christian Erickson (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) downed Halperin at the fifth spot, 6-1, 6-0.

Le Moyne (12-4), which is slotted seventh in the latest NCAA East Region rankings, opens Northeast-10 Conference Championships play on Tuesday as the third seed against sixth-seeded Stonehill College. The match is scheduled to start at 2:00 p.m. at the Skytop Tennis Courts. If weather forces the match indoors, it will take place at Elevate Fitness in DeWitt and start at 12:30 p.m.
