Albany, N.Y. – Greg Musk pitched into the ninth inning to lead The College of Saint Rose to a 3-2 upset of the 11th-ranked Le Moyne College baseball team on Wednesday evening in Northeast-10 Conference Southwest Division action at Bob Bellizzi Field.
Following four scoreless innings to start the game, the Golden Knights took advantage of four walks to score three times in the fifth. Catcher Tom Moore and second baseman Francisco Infante drew consecutive walks to start the inning and then moved up on a balk. Left fielder Matt McKinnon then lifted a sacrifice fly to right field to drive in Moore. Infante then scored as center fielder Brian Uliana reached on a fielder's choice. After walks by shortstop Mark Powell and third baseman Joe Foran and a pitching change, first baseman Nicolas Teitter singled up the middle to drive in Powell.
Le Moyne got on the scoreboard in the top of the sixth with one hit. Junior first baseman
Andrew Taft (Clinton, N.Y./Clinton/Buffalo) walked to start the frame and came around to score on a one-out triple to right center by redshirt junior shortstop
Ben Walsh (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill).
The Dolphins got the tying run to second base in the ninth inning, but could not tie the score. Walsh walked and junior catcher
Camillo Spinoso (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy/George Washington) was hit by a pitch to open the inning. After Walsh was thrown out stealing third and a strikeout, freshman pinch-hitter
Jeff Wilson (Rochester, N.Y./Greece-Odyssey) walked and was replaced at first by freshman pinch-runner
Nick Spinella (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse). Junior left fielder
David DiNorcia (Naples, Fla./Seacrest Country Day) followed with a single to center to knock in freshman pinch-runner
Drew Fureno (Canajoharie, N.Y./Fort Plain). Caleb Gregg was summoned from the bullpen and struck out the next batter to end the game.
Freshman lefty
Joe Vail (Cromwell, Conn./Xavier) took the loss after yielding three runs, two hits and five walks over four and two-thirds innings, while striking out six. Musk picked up his third win of the season after going eight and two-thirds innings and striking out nine, while allowing two runs, five hits and three walks. Gregg struck out the only batter he faced to earn his second save of the campaign.
