SOFTBALL SWEEPS BENTLEY IN NE10 DOUBLEHEADER, 5-0, 2-1

Waltham, Mass. – Senior righty Alexis Eastman (Endicott, N.Y./Union-Endicott) tossed 10 and one-third scoreless innings and had three hits to lead the Le Moyne College softball team to a sweep of Bentley University on Saturday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action. The Dolphins won the opener, 5-0, and took the nightcap, 2-1, in eight innings.

The Dolphins scored the only run they would need in the first game in the fourth inning. Graduate student center fielder Kelsey Johnson (Greece, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy/Buffalo/Syracuse) led off with a single to left, stole second, took third on a sacrifice bunt and scored on a single to center by junior right fielder Lauren Zazzaro (Southington, Conn./Southington).

Le Moyne scored four times in the fifth inning on five hits. Eastman led off with a single up the middle and was replaced at first by sophomore pinch-runner Kalie Schumaker (Constantia, N.Y./Paul V. Moore). After an out, sophomore second baseman Jillian McManus (Kingston, N.Y./Kingston) and Johnson recorded back-to-back singles to load the bases. Sophomore catcher Ally Nicolosi (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn) followed with a single to left to drive in Schumaker. Zazzaro then doubled to left to knock in McManus and Johnson. Following a pitching change, Nicolosi scored on a groundout by sophomore third baseman/first baseman Peyton Bellrose (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool).

Eastman struck out seven and allowed just two hits en route to earning her 11th win of the season. Johnson and Zazzaro each recorded two hits in the contest. Kayleigh Fitzpatrick took the loss after giving up five runs on eight hits over four and one-third innings.

In the nightcap, the Dolphins struck first with a run on two hits in the first inning. Nicolosi singled up the middle with one out, but was replaced at first as Zazzaro reached on a fielder's choice. After stealing second, Zazzaro scored on a single to left field by Eastman.

Bentley evened the score at one in the bottom of the third on a hit and a Le Moyne error. Third baseman Montana Joyce reached on an error by the shortstop to lead off the frame. After a pair of outs, shortstop Julie Slavin singled to center to drive in Joyce.

Following four scoreless innings, the Dolphins scored the winning run in the eighth. Eastman led off with a single to right center and was replaced at first by freshman pinch-runner Johnna Karas (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin). Following a pair of walks around an out to load the bases, McManus singled to left to drive in Karas.

Eastman retired all 10 batters she faced, including six via strikeout, to record her 12th victory of the year. At the plate, she had two of Le Moyne's six hits. Lauren Calabrese suffered the loss after giving up one run over the final four and two-thirds innings.

Le Moyne (19-7, 5-4 NE10) is back on the diamond on Sunday with a doubleheader at Stonehill College at 12:00 p.m.
