#10/23 BASEBALL DROPS FIRST DIVISIONAL SERIES WITH 11-2 LOSS TO SAINT ROSE

Syracuse, N.Y. – Right fielder Alexander Koshgarian scored four times and Greg Musk pitched into the eighth for the second time in as many games to lead The College of Saint Rose to an 11-2 victory over the #10/23 Le Moyne College baseball team in Northeast-10 Conference Southwest Division action on Tuesday afternoon at Dick Rockwell Field.

The Dolphins, who dropped into a tie with New Haven for first place in the division with each team having three games left, opened the game's scoring in the bottom of the fourth as junior designated hitter Nick Place (Towanda, Pa./Towanda) blasted a one-out, 2-1 pitch over the fence in left center for his fourth home run of the season.

Saint Rose, which took the final two games of the three-game series, answered with three runs on two hits in the top of the fifth. Second baseman Francisco Infante led off with a double off the wall down the left field line. Koshgarian then reached on a fielder's choice in which Infante was able to elude a run-down and make his way back to second base. Catcher Tom Moore then reached on a bunt single down the third baseline to load the bases. After a pop out, Infante scored on a wild pitch. Center fielder Brian Uliana then walked on seven pitches to load the bases again. Following a strikeout, designated hitter Andrew Pedone walked on eight pitches and first baseman Nicholas Teitter walked on five pitches to force in Koshgarian and Moore, which led to a pitching change. The new pitcher was able to induce a foul out to end the frame.

The Golden Knights extended their lead to 7-1 with four runs on four hits in the sixth inning. Infante led off with a home run to left center on a 3-1 pitch. Koshgarian followed with a single to center and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. After left fielder Matt McKinnon was hit by a pitch, Uliana singled up the middle, while Koshgarian scored and McKinnon took third on an error by the center fielder. McKinnon then scored as shortstop Mark Powell beat out a double play. After Pedone walked, Teitter doubled to left field to knock in Powell for the 7-1 lead.

Saint Rose plated one run in the seventh on one hit. Koshgarian led off with a single to left field and then stole second and third on consecutive pitches. After a walk and a groundout, Koshgarian scored on a sac fly to center by Uliana.

The Dolphins got the run back in the bottom of the frame as redshirt junior shortstop Ben Walsh (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill) hit his seventh home run of the season to right center on a 1-0 pitch.

The Golden Knights put up three runs in an inning for the third time in four innings in the eighth on three hits and a Le Moyne error. Teitter led off with a double to right center and moved to third on a fly out to center. After a strikeout, Teitter scored on a wild pitch. Koshgarian then singled and advanced to second as Moore reached on a fielding error by the third baseman. McKinnon then doubled to left center to drive in Koshgarian and Moore with the final runs of the game.

Freshman lefty Joe Vail (Cromwell, Conn./Xavier) took the loss after giving up three runs and three hits over four and two-thirds innings, while striking out seven. Musk, who struck out nine in eight and two-thirds innings in a victory over the Dolphins 13 days ago, allowed just four hits and the two runs over eight innings, while striking out three.

Le Moyne (30-12-1, 15-5-1 NE10, 11-4 SW), which has dropped three of its last six games, opens its final series of the regular season on Friday against American International College at 3:00 p.m.
