SOFTBALL ENDS SEASON WITH 3-0 LOSS TO ADELPHI ON DAY TWO OF NCAA EAST 1 REGIONAL

Garden City, N.Y. – Nicole Mengel allowed just two hits and designated player Nicoletta Cuccio scored the game's first run to lead Adelphi University to a 3-0 win over the Le Moyne College softball team in an elimination game on the second day of the NCAA East 1 Regional at Janet L. Ficke Field.

The Dolphins, who made their second NCAA appearance in the last three years, close out the season with a 32-15 record. The 32 wins are tied for the eighth-most in the program's 34-year history and are tied with the 2016 NCAA team for the most since the 2009 squad posted 45.

The Panthers scored the only run they would need on one hit and an error in the top of the third inning. Cuccio singled to center with one out and then stole second. Following a fly out, in which Cuccio moved to third, and a walk by second baseman Nicole Camera, Cuccio scored as Camera stole second.

Adelphi doubled its lead in the fifth inning. After center fielder Krista King led off with a single to third base, she came around to score on a double to left center by Cuccio.

The Panthers scored their final run in the top of the seventh on two hits. Three-time NE10 Player of the Year Brenna Martini led off with a single to left center. After Martini was retired at second as Camera reached on a fielder's choice and stole second, first baseman Emily Turney doubled to right center to drive in Camera.

Senior Alexis Eastman (Endicott, N.Y./Union-Endicott) took the loss for the Dolphins after yielding two runs and six hits in four and two-thirds innings over two stints in the circle. Mengel improved to 12-4 on the season, including 3-0 against the Dolphins, after striking out two in the complete-game performance, while allowing hits to only the first and third-to-last batters she faced.
