Syracuse, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College women's tennis team suffered its first home loss of the season, 5-2, on Saturday against the University of the District of Columbia in non-conference action at the Skytop Tennis Courts.
The Firebirds earned the point in the doubles competition by winning two of the three matches. At the top spot, Simone Parn and Marija Milic registered a 6-0 win over senior
Tiffany Hamdan (Johnson City, N.Y./Johnson City/Roberts Wesleyan) and freshman
Birdem Oz (Istanbul, Turkey/TED Ankara College Foundation HS). The Dolphins tied the doubles at 1-1 as sophomore
Camila Humala (Lima, Peru/Antonio Raimondi) and freshman
Brooke Fernandez (Shirley, N.Y./William Floyd) defeated Paula Avellan and Estefani Castrillon at the third spot, 6-3. Joanna Skrzypczynska and Anastasiia Danylova clinched the point for UDC with a 6-4 win at the second position over sophomores
Caroline St. Antoine (Longueuil, Québec/Cégep Édouard-Montpetit) and
Marta Nunez (Rye, N.Y./Antonio Lopez (Spain)).
The Firebirds won four of the sixth matches in the singles competition for the 5-2 win. Parn put her team up 2-0 by topping Hamdan at the first spot, 6-3, 6-2. Danylova registered a 6-3, 6-1 win at the fifth position over Humala for a 3-0 advantage. Nunez got the Dolphins in the win column with back-to-back scores of 6-1 against Avellan at the fourth spot to improve to 6-0 on the year in dual matches. Freshman
Belen Wibmer (Maldonado, Uruguay/St. Joseph Mary College) was a 6-2, 6-2 winner at the sixth position over Castrillon to get the Dolphins within 3-2. Milic clinched the match for UDC by rallying at the second spot for a 1-6, 6-4, 6-3 win over Oz. Skrzypczynska also won in three sets, 7-6 (7-4), 1-6, 7-5, over St. Antoine at the third spot.
Le Moyne (5-2) returns to Northeast-10 Conference action on Sunday against Saint Michael's College at 11:00 a.m. at the Skytop Tennis Courts.
